My gf wants you guy's advise.....she will be hittin' one of these two cars over the next 2 months and want your advise on which you would rather prefer. Keep in mind that this would be a vehicle for a girl....if it makes any difference LOL

2000-2001 BMW Z3 (not Z4) - rear wheel drive

OR

2001 Audi TT 225 Quattro - all wheel drive

So which do you think

k, k, here's another one to consider....

04 WRX (not sTi)

LOL yeah...totally tough call. I think she's favouring more towards the TT cuz it's an AWD and the one she's got her eye on has 280hp..chipped w/ aftermarket dual exhausts.

 now I'm jealous LOL!

the awd systems on the audi are so aggressive that it is hard to have some fun when the weatehr isnt so nice out. i dont know anything about the bmw..

Audi hands down.. I love BMW, but shit.. the Z3 is crap... not cuz it is cheaply made or anything, I just think it was one of BMW's worst designs to date IMO.. Then again the TT isn't my favorite either, but I would defineatly take it over the Z3...:)

Very tough. Seeing as she is a girl, the Z3 is pretty cool. but then again the audi is also cool. i think for me audi, but for her, maybe teh bimmer

Can't go wrong with either one but if it were my money, I'd take the Audi TT. Why don't you look into a 2001/2 Audi S4? AWD, bi-turbo, 6spd, 5v/cyl, 4dr, - it's got it all!

carzcraz
01-20-2004, 07:27 PM
I don't actually think the TT's resale is that bad either. Maybe not as good as the Z3 but I'm pretty sure she's plannin' on keeping it for a while.

Whatcha y'all think of the silver TT's?

I agree with you man, the S4 are definitely happenin'. I think she wants to get something that's not a 4-door though, as she currently drives one. Otherwise, she would have considered a WRX.

How much would an 01/02 S4 AWD run for? I think there has already been a thread on this....

Imo, the silver TT is the worst colour, I wouldn't drive one, Black or white if it was my car.

Actaully i think the hottest colour for the TT has to Imola Yellow! yeah for sure get the 225 not the 180, it blows chunks

Maybe it's just me, there aren't many cars I think silver looks good on, I hate it on Benz's except the SL, and I'm not a huge fan of the colour on that car either.

Good points brought up against both cars I think, I wouldn't buy either.

I say she should go for the Audi. Audi is more authentic because it is less common here in Canada. Also the All Wheel Drive will work wonders for her in the winter.

I don't even need to meet your girlfriend to say this: girl driving a Audi TT...:hitit:

They seem to range between 35K-45K from '00 to the '02 models. I would avoid the 2000MY as I hear there were some possible issues with the turbos. I came close to buying one back in 2000 when they first came out but Southcentre wouldn't deal on the $57K MSRP. Definitely a nice car though, at least I got an extended test drive... best of luck with whatever you both decide on!

If it were to be the Z3, she would hope to get the 2.5. I don't know if the 2.5's are the top of the line (minus the mz roadster).

Either way, it'll be between the top of the line z3 (2.5?) vs the TT (225Q) - non roadster.

Z3 for sure. All I hear about the audi TT is horrible understeer, and the fact that it's not a 50-50 awd split, but something like 60-40 f-r.

No. The TT runs on the A4 platform which is shared between the Golf and Jettas. It uses the Haldex differential, which is identical to the 4motion setup on VWs. Unlike the Gleason-Torsen system on the "real" quattros, the Haldex is electronically controlled and uses hydraulic clutches. Normal operation is 50/50 torque split.

a used Z3 has tons of bang for the buck right now... you can pick one up rather cheaply and they we generally really well built... i also think that the Z3 looked better than the Z4 does now

If I had to keep both for more than 6 months, teh BMW.

I had a day fo cruiseing the Audi..... it's a cooler car. but it's made by the same guys that make VW's.....

Dont' get me wrong I woudl trade my car for one of those ANY day of teh week. I just don't think anybody woudl trade those for my car.

I work for VW/Audi and honestly the Z3 doesnt hold a candle to the TT especially if it has Quattro. I have driven both here at my dealership and I got to tell you that the Audi is a much better all-around car than the BMW. Besides it being American and not german, the insurance will be a tad lower too..

uhh...which car is american?

Chrisw
01-24-2004, 07:16 PM
well the problem with the Z3 is the fact that it's a 2 seater.........it will get really annoying if she doesnt also have a second car (one with a back seat).

Z3 is the worst bimmer ever produced, in my opinion anyway, yea i would say go with the TT, mmmmmm i love those cars in Blue. is she thinking of the roadster or the coupe?

She's gonna go with the coupe 225Q.

Does anybody know if the convertible soft top will hold out for winter? I know you can buy a hard cover top to go over (from Germany), but it costs quite a bit of $$

GorG
01-30-2004, 06:31 PM
it'll hold out for the winter and everything, they're not made liek they used to, they used to be bad really bad, as long as you dont leave it outside 24/7 you should be good.

That was the main reason why We didn't go with the TT, It totally sucks in the winter, because it is a non-insulated top.

TT. One of the best looking cars on the road. Awesome interior. Make sure it has a spoiler. Audi made some changes to the TT after people lost control at high speeds. They added the functional spoiler & some other stuff. The TT won't handle as well but that doesn't appear to be the debate here.

For driving .. they both " OK " both not the best driving Roadster ( compare to Boxster, Z4 or S2000 )

For look .. they both nice .. for resale value and realiable .. for sure BMW is better by far !

Performance, a 231 Hp Z3 is quicker then a stock 225 HP TT, however, I never try a " 280" HP TT, and I don't really belive a 1.8 L turbo can push to 280 HP ... :dunno:

Depends how much she wanna to spend, if a Z3 2.8 vs a "upgraded" 280 HP TT, then I probaby go to the TT, ( if resale is not an issue, especially not a stock turbo... )
However, if compare to the Z3 3.0 , I will go for the Z3 ! that 3.0 engine is damn nice ! (but price will be more then a TT)

Running cost on Z3 should be much lower too.. you probaby should check their insurance cost as well ..

Anyway .. for brand to brand, I like BMW way more then VW Audi for sure .. and the TT is a "sexy" version Beatle .. however, Z3 was never the greatest BMW as well ....

They both nice Roadster ! sexy looking, fun to drive, and fast too !

Why not a 97/98 Boxster ? :) (but will cost way more to keep!)

carzcraz
02-04-2004, 05:44 PM
c4s..she can't do a boxster as she's lookin' for something that will run in the winter as well.

Money is not really an issue, but she does like the 225Q TT look better. The 280hp has been chipped and also has aftermarket duallys (don't remember what kind) :dunno:

I haveta agree, the TT's are pretty good looking

As far as the spoiler goes, all TT's... as long as they're 01 and up come with the oem spoiler. Love the interior, cux the metal pieces are actually aluminum and not sprayed silver.

The TT or the WRX. Probably not the Z3 if its Calgary. WRX is probably the most practical.
