I have tried searching around but couldn't find much, just curious about Audi a4 owners, how reliable are these cars?

What are the most common problems, is 180km high kms for these cars or can they go on for much longer?

Thanks

I have just over 118k miles on mine (~190k km) and it's running like a champ. Burns oil like crazy though. I hear that the 2.8s are more reliable. In the 15,000 miles I've put on it since I bought it, I've never had a serious issue (knock on wood). But it's an old German car, so there's a good chance something will go wrong.

2.8 is safer bet used, take it to George at TuneDub he will give you a straight bill of goods on the car your looking at.

FYI Pyroza your car burns oil because your pcv/vacuum system is plugged. Very very common problem

are you looking at a 1.8T or a 2.8?

In either case with 180k km i'd make sure the timing belt and all associated components (water pump, tensioner, rollers) have been done. (Should be done at around 120 k km). Also look at the control arms, PCV System (as Sillysod said above), and the axles/cv joints.

I would stay away without a solid maintenance history.

Especially if you're not going to be doing your own work on it!

While they are fairly nice cars, you can expect to pay a fair amount for anything that goes wrong. And unfortunately at that age, things will indeed go wrong.

However, with that aside, you can get a pretty decent car for not a lot of money....

also, dont buy an audi because its an audi, or because its a good deal. They are considerably more to maintain than your prelude.

I had an Audi for a short period and now I'm scared to buy any Audi for a reliability reason.
