Edmonton police are on the look-out for a 17-year old woman, who is allegedly engaging in unprotected sex with a number of partners without revealing her status as being HIV positive. Police say two people have come forward alleging they've been with 17-year-old Kyra Peterson.
Officers are strongly suggesting that anyone who has engaged in sexual activity with this woman should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
"We want to make sure this offence doesn't continue because it is a criminal offence. But it is also she needs help, and we want to help the people she's been with as well," said Det. Barb Clover with the Edmonton Police. Failure to disclose one's status as HIV positive is a criminal offence if you know you are HIV positive.
Police say it's unusual to release a youth's name and picture, but they did get permission from the court to do so Friday morning because they believe this is a risk to the community.
Anyone who may have information regarding Kyra Peterson's whereabouts or who may have been sexually involved with her is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Sooo, looks like there's no risk of infection spreading. Case closed?
