I drive a 2.0 L Jetta (save your 2.sl0w jokes...I know it aint a rocket). Anyways I've been using Premium (91 Octane) fuel for about 4 months now.

Does anybody know if the premium fuel would actually makea difference? I cut back to mid-grade for a while and I don't know if it was psychological but my car seemed a little slower.

Is there any proof that premium performs better, or has better economy, or burns cleaner?

For the 2.0L -- unless you have a Neuspeed Supercharger (which you don't) -- only requires 87 octane -- don't waste your money on 91+.

The higher the octane, the higher the flash point.
desnt give you more hp, and doesnt increse fuel mileage.
only use what your manual says, unless of course you got a turbo or somthin. You need a higher octane so the heat from your turbo doesnt cause pre-detination:D

that perticular engine is designed to run on 87. 91 wont affect it.

Oh and that gas you can get at mohawk, ethanol-blended. that only works for older cars with the shitty emissions:thumbsdow

Save your money and use 87 Octane. 91 is not going to help you. Besides i just got 91 Octane today and it was almost 80 cents a litre.

What about for a twelve-year-old 3.8L V6? I use premium (93 octane here in the states), and I think I should, right?

I told you like a month before you bought the car that it only needs 87 (I remember talking to you about this in calculus one day lol) :D :D You never listen do you :D

Yep - and if you want to help your car, give it one of those gas treatment bottles every 6 months with the money you save.

Okay thanks guys, all your responses helped a lot! Oh darn, now I get to save more money!

I appreciate all your input, however if I get too paranoid I'll switch back. My life is screwed because my mind is screwed!

Holy shit, look at all the misinformation in this thread! First off, do a search, this topic has been covered in at least 5 other threads.

It's more of higher cylinder pressures, and higher octane fuel resists detonation in harsher environments, ie pressure, temps, etc.

Sure it will, shittier mileage! :D

dude, you gotta read more before making such lame claims. Mohawk ethanol blends increase octane, good for tuning your car for more power, ie more ignition advance, more boost, etc.

ya tahts what a ment rage, compressed air creates heat and it could ignite the fuel before the spark.
am i right?
