I recently got back from my vaction and my car has hail damage. I called my insurance company and without the specific day the damage occured they wont help me.

I have searched online and looks like a storm went through August 5th but doesn't look like it caused much damage.

Anyone know of a hail report for Calgary area?

What area of town are you? The north got hit with a pretty bad storm a few weeks back that didn't hit the south; I'm sure the opposite is true. I have photos/video of the last bad storm I was hit with, if you are in the north it may help

Car was located in Kensington

My suggestion is find someone who was there during a storm and ask if any date stands out as being a bad storm. Or just pick a day when there was a storm and try your luck.

How far north was this storm?

If only there were some kind of interweb "seach" website, that could you could find information on... (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1680&bih=860&q=calgary+hail+storms+july+2011&oq=calgary+hail+storms+july+2011&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1233l7825l0l7934l29l26l0l12l12l0l220l1866l4.7.3l14l0)

The damage was over the last few weeks, not in July.

You don't know how to change "July" to "August" in Google?

Fine.

Bad enough to kill a guy. I'm assuming that's your storm.

August 5 storm doesnt look like it did much damage within Calgary. Thats why i asked in the first place. The car damaged was SLK 350 whether thats a sports car or not is up to you :poosie:

You can still have localized golf ball hail. I saw this happen in Erin Woods one year, where no one else noticed anything.

(witnessing golf balls landing on your patio is very impressive)

i am 90% sure that it was the august 5 storm that hit your car. from what i recall, that area received severe hail and flooding

let's see pictures of the damage and how bad it is

You're in luck. I was close by in Renfrew during the storm, and it was BAD. Here's pics shortly afterwards.

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc475/rage2amg/e1873517.jpg

Note that the size of the hail is smaller than when it came down because it had already melted. Photos were shot August 5th, 2011 at 6:40pm for the first 2, and 7:20pm for the close up. The size of the hail was about 1/2 golf ball sized in diameter. I can get a video of the storm too, it's on my other phone.

As for damage, my brother was driving through the storm between Renfrew and Kensington on Memorial, and had a few dents + paint chipped off.

Hope that helps!

I had hail still on my lawn at noon the next day from the Aug 5 storm. The hail was as large as a twonie at some points.

That August 5th storm was *almost* big enough for damage where I was. I was driving through the thick of it on Beddington right by Hidden Valley, and it was hitting hard. (Particularly loud with a canvas top). The wipers could barely keep the windshiled clear. We then went to Beacon Hill, and while waiting for it to stop outside Sport Chek they were about the size of a loonie.

I'm certain there were areas where they were a bit bigger - and capable of damage.

The Aug 5th Storm is nasty around centre street and 16th Ave.

I just did my apprasial today and my car is written off. I am going to take a cash settlement less 35% for the damage but get to keep the car because it is a hail claim. Estimated damage is around $7000 on my Suzuki. I was eating pho @ pho kim that day around 6-7:30ish. :nut:

I was 10 blocks away, and I didn't get a single dent. Weird how localized it was.

Aug 5th storm absolutely created hail claims. Not as bad as July 12th last year but bad enough.

Yea I remember walking home after the one last year. My heart sunk when I got about a block from my house and every car looked like a golf ball. Got to my house and my car only had two dents. Amazing how variable these storms can be

I spoke too soon, I noticed a dent on my hood on the drive home. Took a closer look, I've got one good dent, and a bunch of little dents on my roof... probably not enough for a claim, but enough to piss me off.

Thanks guys for all the info.

The car isn't as damaged as much as these cars but still damaged.

I did see youtube videos of august 5th storm but it looks like pee-sized hail.

Anyone know if there is a deductiable for hail damage?

Thanks again!!!

Ok...for some reason i thought mother nature accidents are ded free.

As were on this subject of hail damage, I did have a few more questions..

Is there some dents that PDR can't take care of?

I have a crack in the paint on one dent so that must need to be repainted im guessing. The spoilers clear coat is already showing hits but not dents.

Call your insurance company and go over that part. Its all based on your coverage.

I had a vehicle written of by hail last year and they waived my deductible based on it being an act of nature. But that's not true for all policies.

My appraiser just called and I am getting $3180+ for my car plus I get to keep the car. I can't complain too much.

He valued my 02 Suzuki at 5,285.00.

I guess is good having a good insurance company that doesn't low-ball me. :D

The two times I've had a vehicle written off, I was offered more than what I thought market value was. I didn't have to haggle at all on either one.

The problem is fucking idiots parking under bridges. I understand you want to be safe and all but don't have 20+ cars under beddington and Stoney.

The bad part about this was, there was only one lane free, and id say only 2-3/20 had hazards on, half of them had their rear tail lights on...

I was going the speed limit down the hill towards the East and HOLY SHIT FUCK, 20 cars under the bridge all stopped and i had to almost slam on my brakes because of these fucking goofballs.

What made it worst was, the only lane free, a dump truck decides to go 30 km/h and basically block it. It's hard enough seeing with heavy rain, but cars with no lights on under a bridge...

majority looks to be about marble, but we've got a lot of those marbles frozen together to form the toonie sized.

I'm over on the Scenic Hill area, near the school.

Does anyone else carry blankets/covers in their cars? I did on August 5th and wrapped it around my roof closed in by the doors. At least one of the panels wouldn't be damaged.

Yep. The best way is to get a full car cover with eyelets in it, and then have two s00per long bungee cords to run underneath your car. That way the wind doesn't blow it away.

It actually amazes me in Alberta more people don't have car covers, they'd save 75% of cars from the hail damage they suffer from!

I was around Chinook when it hit and I also carry a blanket but I didn't have time to deploy it in this case. I managed to get on the South side of the Bank across the street from Chinook which protected me. I avoided hail damage, but I gave one of my rims curb rash when trying to hug the building a little closer...the curb in front and behind of my car was like 1" tall so I didn't notice that it was like 8" tall RIGHT where I couldn't see and I drove too close to it. Lesser of 2 evils I suppose.

I wasn't even going to drive, the wind was blowing North when I checked and I didn't think the storm would come back south. The curb rash isn't bad and is right on the edge of the rim near the tire. I've never before curbed a rim in my life, and now I do it on my new car  Kind of annoying because I don't *think* the hail was bad enough to do damage, but you never know!

I have some dents in some weird places, seams and what not.

I guess they'll use the old fasion fix if they cant do PDR.
