View Full Version : Picked up a new daily drive (my dream car)

I've been living in Houston 2 months now (work), and my gf and I have been sharing the Chevy Cruze Eco I bought for her (40mpg is easy).

Corvettes of Houston tracked this one down for me (2LT with Nav, 5,000miles).

Some comments since picking it up yesterday:
- It's way quieter inside and outside then my C5Z.
- At first I didn't think it felt as quick as the C5Z, but I think it's just the quietness that makes it deceptively fast. I plan on taking it to the drag strip, hoping for 11.xx at 12xmph.
- The long gears are great. 100km/h in 1st is cool:).
- It feels more solid then my C5Z. Accelerating and cornering just feel way smoother.
- To color is....just...wow.
- Can't wait to put some more miles on it.

I'll be taking the front plate mount off. I already bought a mild to wild kit to install, and I have some aftermarket lowering bolts.

I'm signed up for a 2 day driver education coruse a Texas World Speedway for Sept. I can't wait!!!! 3 mile road course.

On to the pics:

Sick! I've been thinking about trading the STi for a C6Z06 next spring. Makes more sense for a weekend/autox car.

very nice man.

Dream to move to Texas. Enjoy driving it almost every day of the year. Youll get that odd snow fall but itll be gone within minutes haha

PS: is that first photo photoshopped to drop the car? It looks hella slammed. Maybe just the angle?

I'll be the first to say I'm not fond of the colour - but that's personal choice. Gorgeous car regardless....

Good choice. The only corvette I would consider owning is a Z06 or ZR1, they are just completely different cars when comparing to the regular vettes.

Since you moved to Houston, was the house you bought way cheaper and MORE square footage than in Calgary?

Nice car! Congrats. You gotta take off those little square "GM" badges that are right under the side scoops on both sides, they are sooooo tacky. Personally i think its way to low in the first pic that was photoshopped. Stock ride height is pretty nice. Again, congrats!

Nice colour, if you're not a big guy I'd highly recommend a harness bar and a good harness or a race seat for the track. That stock seat is a couch and you'll spend much energy and focus staying in it on the road course.

Awesome car, looks incredible and in Houston you should be actually able to enjoy the car (I imagine that the roads are much better then the crap we have in Calgary). The JSB is a wicked color for the Corvettes good choice.

Thanks y'all. Yep, my Houston home is brand new, 3,700', and I paid less then my 1,100' Bridlewood house sold for. Home and auto insurance is 3x as expensive though.

I had a family friend down here who road-races his Porsche and has seat time in Z06's take me for a run through some windy roads he knows. It was insane. I now have some idea of what the car is capable of. I can't wait to get it on the 3 mile road course next month.

Congrats Bro. That's a great car for the Houston highways...and you can drive it year-round down there! I recently bought my dream car for DD as well...although I don't take delivery of it till next week.

What part of Houston are you in? Spent 8 months there last year for work and would move there in a second if the wife ever jumps on board.

From what I understand the C6 > C5 Z06...so you've got one hell of a car no matter what!

Pimp car for sure Eliptix! My boss just picked one up in Calgary as well, same colour. At least I think it's the same...it looks darker blue in his photos but I think that's just the light.

Regarding the C6 > C5 Z06 comment, I don't agree totally. I think the C5 coupe is a classic design, and the C5Z has a raw feel that no other vette since has replicated. Also, I think normal C6 vette's look really bland. imo.

That's fair - I just don't agree with the comment that it's not worth considering a non-Z06 / ZR1 model. The base C6 is still one helluva car.

27-28mpg on the highway. 6th gear is 1500 rpm at 115km/h.
14-18mpg in the city, but I need more seat time to get a reliable #.
8mpg on the road race track (I'm told).

This is the one thing that really surprised me when I owned my C5, and surprised everyone I told... as long as you drive it moderately, the Corvette actually provides exceptional mileage; especially on the highway.

my dad averages around 8 L/100km highway in his C5, pretty damn impressive for a V8 i would say

I went to the track last night. It was 32C but being near sea level helped.
My 60' was getting better each run. After the 12.16 run below, I had what felt like my best launch but the timers didn't work. It felt like a 1.9x and may have been the 11 I'm looking for. Totally stock, no tune, stock tires at 24psi hot.

About as different as your bank charging you 3.9% vs 4.5%.

Got a MGW short shift kit and race knob. Also a Halltech Superbee CAI, to be installed. The shifter feels great, but it's noisier then I want. Hopefully it'll quiet down with time.

It feels like sand paper on metal, but according to the manf: "polymer blend handle".

I installed the Halltech CAI Halltech email tune. The SOTP feel was good so I went back to the track.

All my runs were 120-121. My 3rd run (last) was 11.82 at 120, so I'm finally in the 11's on the stock goodyear tires. I thought the cooler temps, halltech CAI, and tune would have yielded a better mph. I was doing 120mph with the stock intake on a much warmer night. I'm going to contact Halltech and get their imput as the improved ET is due to the better 60'.

Shlade

its your 60ft time... I wouldnt worry about calling them to see what you could do better... theyll just tell you the same thing.

What PSI are you running the stocks one?? Id drop em a bit and slip the clutch right out of the hole. with a good 1.8-1.9 60ft time you should be low 11`s and about 124-128mph

Ekliptix
10-21-2011, 01:27 PM
My 60' time is not the cause of the low mph. People typically lose a little mph when they get a good (1.8 or less) launch actually, although I don't know why.

With my 2002 Z06, it trapped 110-112 with the stock cam. With the aftermarket cam and 40whp more (dyno'ed before and after) it trapped 115-116mph. Back at the track on street tires with the new cam, the ET dropped 0.4 seconds with same 60' as when I raced with the stock cam. In the case of my 2002 Z, 40whp more gave me +4mph and -0.4 seconds ET with the same 60', which is what I expected.

With the documented 33whp increase from the intake and tune others have had on my 2008 Z, plus the cooler air I had, the mph should have improved to about 124. That's my opinion at least.
