I currently own a desktop computer with shaw internet as my primary internet provider.

My sister has a toshiba laptop with a networking card. I just purchased a router, and we now have no problems both accessing Shaw without fighting over the computer.

I've got another idea now...I want to have both computers networked so that I can transfer files to her and vice versa...

Any ideas on how/what I need to get this done? I can supply more info if needed, so ask away.

Are both computers using shaw IPs or are you assigning them internal private IPs and having your router do NAT for you?

They are both using the same IP...

I am more interested in transfering files between my computer to hers, however.

very easy

run network setup wizard on both computers, then choose which folders you want to share (right click on your HD or folder in windows explorer, hit properties, and go to Sharing and set your options in there)

then to access the other PC, go to MY NETWORK PLACES and click "view workgroup computers" the other PC should be in there and you will be able to access/transfer files to it

I think I have a link to a FULL tutorial but it's pretty easy to do

edit: here are a bunch of links which make it REALLY easy to understand

you can skip most of the steps of setting up your Cards and stuff since you've already done that

again, it's very easy to do!
