My lease obligations are 80,000kms over 4 years. $550/month

So basically I'm paying $.33 per km I drive.

Now here's the thing, over mileage is only $0.13+tax?/km

I've read over my lease and I don't see anything about extra charges or limitations on over mileage other than paying $0.13/km.

Am I missing something here? Has anyone returned a car over mileage?

Question is, do you want to keep the car? If not, calculate the TCO in both scenarios:

1. Buy out, and resell.
2. Return, pay excess mileage.

See which one is better, what the difference in $ is, and if it's worth your time for that difference to do option #1.

You can't look at it purely from the 13 cents per km POV. And to answer your question, you just pay the mileage penalty, and nothing else.

You are thinking about it the wrong way. Had you opted for the 25,000km/year lease over 4 years it would have been much cheaper. Of course, you may not have known you would put so much km on the car.

Just did a quick check on vw.ca and for an extra $15 or so a month you get an extra 20,000km over the 4 years, works out to $0.03/km.
