Hey guys, my name is Markham I love cock in and around my face!

A 24-year old man was burned in a fire at an auto wrecker’s yard on Thursday evening in the southeast.

Firefighters were called to a fire in the southeast by members of the Calgary Police Service who spotted the blaze while on a routine patrol of the area.

When firefighters arrived at around 8 p.m., they discovered they had to deal a man suffering from burns as well as the fire. A 24-year old man was treated by CFD members and then his care was turned over to AHS for further treatment and transport to hospital.

Firefighters quickly found a burning car in the middle of an auto wrecker’s yard and crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to other areas.

It is believed the burn victim was in the process of dismantling the vehicle when the fire started. The man was removing the fuel tank at the time of the fire which investigators believe may have been a contributing factor in the blaze.

Shitty deal. $10 says he was using an cordless drill or impact wrench to remove the tank.

That's terrifying.

You think the socket slipped and caused a spark?how would this even happen?

Probably still fuel in the tank, then it dripped onto a cordless tool he was using, then WOOF!

what wrecker was this? I know its not bucks auto, used to work there and they are entirely way to strict on removing fuel tanks before putting the car out for parts and im pretty sure pick n pull is the same

The area was really smoky when I was driving home that night. I was wondering what it was. Not sure of where it was coming from exactly

overheard a guy talking at restaurant yesterday and it apparently was his brother and he said he was cutting the tank out... foolish if you ask me!

Ive seen / worked for a few wreckers, it was common to use the grinder or torch to cut the straps, just saves so much time, I know its not the safest way to do it but it happens.

I was doing this just a couple of weeks ago. Using a mini grinder to cut the bolts holding a tank in.. It is sketchy thats for sure.. You're much safer with a full tank of fuel then an nearly empty one though.

Also a gas related explosion in halifax, just as a reminder>

Was on the iPhone and didn't want to type....but what I was saying was I thought this was a different case that happened around the same time, but up in the NW. Cops came to a burning vehicle around 11:00 pm and found someguy burning. He goes to hospital with 80% burns to his body, and dies a couple days later. Now it has turned into a "homicide" investigation.
