IMO, this isn't much of a comparison. I haven't driven the C63, but wasn't impressed at all with the ISF

New or used?

Go drive them yourself and buy what ever you like best.

I dont know what the difference is on both but I love how the ISF looks over the C63AMG.

C63 got the better engine, interior space and brand.

IS-F is cheaper, especially used and a lot more to choose from.

IS-F is nice except the rear seats I swear are made for small people. I'm 5'5 and I sat back there and I'm like WTF lol is there any room back here? However it looks hot, drives nice and has a wicked growl.

get an Audi if you want a winter car or just buy winter tires for the m3.

if you think the M3 can't be driven in the winter, then you sure can't drive the other two either.

Maybe just buy some steelies and nokians for the M3, instead of thinking you need another car.

Is there a way to tell if the previous owner abused LC and would be passing on a pending repair bill?

If the car can't handle launch control, why even have it on the car if using it a few times will blow shit up.

I use launch control on my GTI frequently. It's fucking awesome haha

I thought all 2010 and newer GT-R doesn't have this issue while older ones may or many not have the latest launch control software and may have tranny issues.

The ISF will be cheaper to buy used, and most likely cheaper to maintain too. But as has been said the C63 & ISF are very similar cars to the M3 Sedan so :dunno:

I don't think so.

A brake job on an ISF is just as expensive as the C63 or M3. It might actually be more expensive.

Front Rotors for the ISF are ~$500 a piece. You are looking at at least $3-$4K for a brake job front and rear.

There's a lot of incorrect info here, just to clear things up: LC1 for 2009, LC2 for 2010, LC3 for 2011 and LC4 for 2012.

LC1 and LC4 are the most brutal with 4000K+ clutch drops. LC1 has no limit, LC4 has a limit of 4 consecutive times before deactivating to let the transmission cool down (regular driving about a mile), then it will let you continue. LC4 can't be easily moved down to pre models because much of the performance of the 2012 car is in performance improvements on the car not the LC itself. LC1 has no limit which allowed drivers to launch consecutively many times in a row (not like 10 more like 30+) and grenade the tranny. Nissan classifies the GR6 as a non-serviceable part, meaning if something goes wrong it's policy to replace the whole thing, thus the $20K tranny replacement everyone talks about. Today there is so much aftermarket support and capable tuners for the GR6 even if something happens to the tranny, full replacement is no longer necessary, you can get it repaired for a small fraction of that cost. Lots of 2009's still run LC1 and use it.

As for LC2, this was available to be put on 2009 cars for free, gives you generally consistent ~3.5s 0-60 times with warranty and can be used all you want. It's a softer launch at 3K-3.5K but Nissan reworked clutch engagement and other things to allow it to match the 0-60 times of the LC1. It keeps warranty because VDC does not need to be turned off as in LC1. With either case just turning VDC off does not void your warranty by itself, something has to break while VDC is off for that to become a possibility. Even in that case (after Nissan's transmission lawsuit), Nissan has to proove that having VDC off caused the failure. Having VDC off is not enough just to void your warranty if something breaks. It also has to be off at the time of the failure not just in history.

Back to the topic, the GT-R is a good winter beater, but I would highly advise winters, the all-seasons really don't cut it.

bituerbo
09-13-2011, 10:08 AM
I can't believe you're cross-shopping between a C63 and an ISF. Based on your original question, the C63 is best. For a winter vehicle in Calgary, it's absolutely the wrong choice (sorry to the half-dozen of you that already do this). Having a winter daily (09' GTR) that outpaces your summer daily (E92 M3 I think I read?) doesn't make a lot of sense.

If you want something winter-sporty yet still practical: STi/Evo. Neither are luxury brands, but with muddy/snowy boots, you don't want to be effing up any seal-skin-suede interiors. Also you find your cars become much more enjoyable when you stop caring about them. I know I couldn't take a GTR through a snow covered gravel road with a smile on my face.
