View Full Version : Decent, quiet places to study at the UofC?

Hey guys, I'm a student at UofC, and I was wondering which places are the best for studying.

If you could also give the place that you reply with a simple overall rating out of 5, that would be fine.

I have checked out the digital library, however, it is way too packed with people.
I'm looking for some fresh opinions...

Pick a random floor of the MacKimmie Library Tower. It is scary quiet up there if there are no people fucking around. 5/5

I found out there is such a thing as too quiet in those floors. Someone could seriously commit a murder there and no one would probably find out for a week.
I wonder what they're going to do with that building anyway once they move everything out.

One of my favourite places to study on my own is the study area between the basement and main floor of the science theatre, at the NE corner. It's nowhere near as quiet as the library tower, but it works for me.

Basement of cragie hall. Its the best place, to study, poop in peace, and other stuff. Place is a ghost town..

I second this, I used to go to the music floor (9th?), there are quite a few tables there.

+1 for law. I'm always there. Large desks, personal outlets, personal lamp and quietness

The digital library seems pretty quiet if you go all the way to the sixth floor but then it's only been the second day of classes.

Where's the law library?

It's a secret room only for 3rd year + students just like the Room of Enchantment in Harry Potter :poosie:

It's been a while since I've been to the U, but I remember the MacKimmie Library Block being really quiet (not the Tower, but the building beside it).

2nd floor of Murray Fraser Hall. The entrance is by the round lobby area.

dont answer! by not telling the 1st and 2nd years where it is, is the only thing keeping the library there quite.

I USED to go to basement of mack. library, but that place has been completely ruined by 1st/2nd years. I used to be able to hear a pin drop or someone fart across the room in that place, but now its filled with ppl just having roaring conversations ,, fuckkkkiiiinnggg newbies!!!.......

+1 Law!
Good lightning haha
Finding empty classrooms is also good too.
Anyone know what's happening with MacKimmie?

From the Student's Union Facebook page:

"MASSIVE UPDATE from the Provost: 125+ study spaces will be opened up in the old Info Commons by Monday (the rest of the space is being used for theExam Centre). PLUS, 100+ new single-person study spaces in the TFDL by next Friday. AND, Deans from EACH FACULTY are identifying available study spaces to be filled with old study carrels from MacKimmie. Will keep keeping y'all posted! 1Campus/One Love"

It's official! There are 135-140 seats now available on the EAST side of the 2nd floor MacKimmie for silent study; as the balance of the floor is in use for exams. I'll keep you posted on new furniture for TFDL coming later this week. 1Love - a msg from your SU pres
