View Full Version : Thinking of getting 2011 charger

Thinking I might dump the sti for a charger. I took an r/t awd for the day yesterday and was quite imPressed with fit and finish and all the options (less adaptive cruise and heated steering wheel) all for about a $1000 less than I paid for the sti. Obviously much bigger and the ride was way more relaxed than the sti's. Mileage is surprisingly decent with the 5.7l. Worse intown than sti but better on the highway. (15l / 7l/100kms).

The unit has htd rear seats, htd and cooled cup holders, 8.4" touch screen, gps, back up camera, nappa leather, roof, Jammy stereo and ugly ass 19" wheels that are only good for winter, but have lined up some nicer 20's

Plus you can remove fuse 14 and the car is basically rwd until fuse is replaced.

Has anyone else looked at them or driven one? I want make sure I'm not being swayed by the cool toys, v8 etc

Yes, and has the new encrypted PCMs that will never be capable of tuning or any aftermarket support.

It has the cylinder deactivation, at 100kms it was registering between 6-7l/100km which shocked me, as the sti barely gets below 9l/100km even at 80km/hr.

Mustang definetly a no go as much as I like them, too impractical as a grocery getter / road trip / family mover.

The interior is so much better now, than my 06 magnum was, which is one of the reasons I dumped it. Too ugly to look at every day. I'm finding the subie to be too plain lately also.

If they stick with the emPloyee pricing they gave me I might do it on Monday. ($5600 discount)

2012 V6 models get the 8 speed automatic whereas the hemi ones have the 5 speed. Not sure if this matters to you.

Nah, need to get the hemi to get awd. 8 speed would be sweet, but I'm okay with 5sPd and the hemi.

Hey Aleks you get all the costs on cars don't you? Do you know if they are telling me the truth when I'm buying the car for about $38500 (list is $44520)? They say there is about $600 profit left and I could probably get at most $500 more off.

I like it but when we were in the US there are already TONS that are rental cars. Will hurt resale. Otherwise I like it.

Nice cars, but a massive difference from the STi. The Sti is a car which has manual as an option so you row your own gears. The Charger does have paddle shifters but not sure what your take on that is. The STi also has an AWD system which is excellent and in part with Audi's AWD. The Charger isn't the best in snow. Both are nice, but the Charger is certainly powerful, and spacious.

It's your call. I don't know if I would be able to ditch an STi to go for a Charger. The Mustang GT is powerful, and does have a moderate trunk, so you might want to test drive that if you are into V8 muscle cars. Plus, it has great cornering, and is more refined than previous models.

I love the new tailights.

The mustang is out, need four doors. While it's trunk may be moderate the charger's is huge and the sti hatch is still way more functional

This is a tough call for me too. I pined for an sti for so long and I still really like it. Most fun car I've ever had all year round. The main reasons I am looking around are, something bigger is inevitable and the charger would be a more fun choice than an suv.

My wife is not so good at driving stick, and when I need my truck she'd have a car that is much easier to drive and probably wouldn't put it through the garage door, Forgetting it was in gear.

When my lease is up down the road I'd be trading anyways, so figure it mAy make sense to get out while I have some equity.

And for roughly the same price the sti kills the charger in all handling asPects, but acceleration is similar and the charger has way more options to live wih on a daily basis.

It's been over a year and counting. The serious players are down-grading to 2010 controllers.

It will happen everything can be hacked.... I guess the dodge tuners are not as good as the others, cause even the mega complex BMW ecu has been fully hacked now.

Most systems are complicated and take time to figure out. This is the first time I've heard of actual security measures being taken. (passkey from Chrysler server for access or some shit).

I have to give Chrysler credit for finally listening and improving their interiors. Their new vehicle interior rivals anything else out there in the price range.

I think it's a fine looking car and quite suitable for what it is. The only issue I have is that it should NEVER have been called a "Charger" as, well, it isn't a Charger - it has four doors.

Hi man!

Does the Charger have AWD? I wouldn't know about leasing though as you don't own the car.

Thanks Guys.

Car is so floaty as compared to Subie, but damn comfortable.

The Charger does AWD, only available with the 5.7L v8 for 2011 though.

I ended up using a totally different finance program. 0% x 68 months, with a purchase option at the 36. If I don't buy it out i can continue making payments at 0% for the rest of the term.

Nice car but it needs to be blacked out somewhat IMO. How can you tell I'm being domesticated lol. Did you trade in the Subie?

jonnycat
09-23-2011, 10:41 AM
Yeah the 0% was a shocker especially with a walkaway option.

Subie is gone, heading to one of the Calgary dealers. Dodge didn't want it down here which blows my mind, as it is an easy money maker, but now I will probably never see it again, which makes it easier. Really loved that car, but it really came down to size, lack of interior (quality and options) and wife's natural suckiness of an extra pedal.

Windows will be getting tint, and new rims next summer. Not sure if I am going black or chrome or mix of both. These ones will be okay as winter wheels.

I saw a white charger with black wheels and tinted tailghts, looked good.

These pony cars are so big and my Grabber Blue Mustang is so monotone that I'm going to go black rims in the spring and blackout the decklid and spoiler for a Boss 302 look.
