Awesome winter toy. We should set up a winter autocross session and see how it compares to other AWD vehicles.

Though I dont have a 996 turbo, I have a 996 C4S and this is my 3rd year driving it year round. I decided to keep the stock 11 wide wheels in the rear and go for a 285/35R18 Dunlop Wintersport 3D IMO best performance winter tire that will fit the OEM 11 rears. I have run these tires on my STI and now Porsche I have driven basically every winter tire there is, and I will say that the wintersport 3D is one of my favorites and would still be driving on it even if it wasn't the only one in that size. Retardedly good dry performance, great snow traction, and decent ice traction.

My car is also lowered but I have never had a problem getting stuck in even the deepest snow, close to a foot, I have never gotten stuck. in the deep stuff my bumper acts like a snow plow, it will throw some snow up into my windshield, but it is manageable. I regularly take it to the mountains as well.

I have gotten stuck once in my 3 years and it was more me being stupid than anything. I was trying to get into a 7-11 parking lot for a pack of smokes just after the plows had gone down the main street. I tried to drive through it, but was to hard of a pack and got stuck on top. with each wheel atleast 12 inches off the ground, so most cars would have gotten hung up.

It looks like this from Rememberence Day Weekend to Easter Weekend. I try and go skiing or boarding a few times a week, no point in taking them off
