Got my first mod on the car today. Let the rice build begin!

CF GT2 wing:

No wheels till next year. For now, just going to concentrate on winterizing the car (3M, winter tires) and updating the head unit with a Pioneer Nav so I can have my Bluetooth action going.

Looks good rage. I am not the biggest 996 fan, but of course I have great respect for the turbo.
Now that you have two winter beaters now though, how will you choose in the mornings

I suppose that for my winter car I could live with the rising dough interior of the 996... and the fried egg lights..

lol jk its a nice car and an extreme winter car!

Yeah, need a bigger one, lower it 5 inches, -50 camber and an illmotion sticker and you're all good!

Planning any techart body pieces? Not sure if you've seen the techart 996 rolling around town, probably the best looking 996 I've ever seen.

Non x50. I dont think chip will do much up at this elevation. I have a feeling the turbos are already working to the max to make stock HP here. If I'm going to look for power, it'll be turbo swaps. At this time, the car has good enough power for the winter.

You mentioned in the other thread that you had a set of PSS9's? Shoot me a PM on how much you want for them. I'm still thinking about how to lower the car and survive the winter. Don't want to deal with seized coilovers, so I might just go with springs + dampers instead. Kinda sucks, cuz it's the same price.

Flash maybe not much on a k16, I though I had k16's turns out at some point mine had been swapped to K24's, flash and exhaust netted mine 499rwhp.

The pss9's are gone, sorry. They are a nice setup on the street though, especially for winter with the boots and high quality materials. Good range of height adjustment as well could be installed without lowering the car. Even the KW clubsports I have now could be raised to stock heights easily.

What year and mileage on your car?

rage2
09-18-2011, 11:46 AM
2003 33,000kms.

Did you have any problems with the PSS9's or KW clubsports in the winters? Last thing I want is clunking, squealing and seizing. I'm contemplating on the factory M030 ROW springs and dampers, which costs more than coilovers lol.

Wow low miles, id be curious to see if you have any issues with leaks from seals down the road. Mines have 100k km more lol

No issues with the pps9s, kw's just recently went on. Im likely going to drive the car up until end of Nov then store it, need to pull the drivetrain to go through it and do some upgrades.

What are you going to run for tires, not a lot of choices for pure snows. I have conti dws on my other rims, they work great in our climate. Rated best uhp all season in the snow.

Also I installed a wavetrac lsd in the mine, huge difference.

Iv sold 2 sets of KW Clubsports to 996 Twiners, the perches are hardened plastic so they don't seize in harsh winter conditions... Amazing Coil overs to say the least.. 996 Twins are getting really affordable, iv been toying with pulling one from the states for the last month or so.. K16 Upgraded Turbos, GT2 Intercoolers and Software your like 500Wheel

How are you liking your coils Paul? Get the POS out to the track on saturday!!! what tires on the car right now?:poosie:

Love the kw cs's amazing balance when the tires are hot, slight understeer on the street when push. Still running the toyo proxes1 street tires. Turned laps in the mid 1:23's with toasted tires. Just finished installing a fresh set, rss tarmac series stage 2 lca and dog bones, rear toe links, alignment and some new more agressive pads. Hoping to get down to 1:21's on street tires, which will match my ls1 bmw on slicks...your welcome to come for some laps, i know ryan wont, pussy lol

These cars are unreal bang for the buck, stop pissin about with the mr2

Hope to be here on saturday to attend the bash. Hope the weather holds.

Yea MR2 is for sale, time for me to move on.. If it doesnt sell ill keep it i guess put it away into storage.. the 996 TT platform is so amazing.. Marc was doing an OOP on an X50 (red i believe) about 2 months ago, said the guy got it out of victoria for high 40's in believe.. i just need to find a good platform.. Found a couple nice ones in seattle, that fit the budget.. Id love to see a 1:21 on street's!!! :nut:

Yea, I have all the maintenance work on the car. The last owner was a housewife that drove the car to get groceries, thus such low kms. From what I can see, it was driven regularly. I'll be putting a lot of km's on her tho. I hear the record for 996 Turbos is 320k miles, on the original clutch too!

Hankook Icebear W300's. Had them for 2 years on the C63, and they're awesome when it's cold and dry. It does the job in the snow on the C63, so with AWD on the 996 it should be pretty invincible haha.

What's up with the car coming with no LSD, or even option for LSD? You figure that it's a Porsche, stuff like that should be standard! :nut: The handling in the dry leaves much to be desired. Reminds me of my old SLK32, great fun up to the limit, then sloppy.

Why would you sell the black series man! Such a rare car, compared to a car that you see like at least 10 every day. I don't even like Merc's but that thing was sick. :( I may be biased cause I never liked Porsche's but still.

Although the turbos will be working harder at our elevation, I imagine the gains will still be very noticeable from a flash.

Yes stock they are pretty soft true GT car. No idea why no lsd, transforms the car, especially in low grip situations. Last year I couldnt drive the car on the track with psm on, especially in the wet. Now with the lsd it stays on and is not a bother unless I mess up which is what you want. Should be high on your to do list, especially for winter. Awesome drift machine with psm off and a lsd.

Haha I remember more than 4 years ago when milesmcewing here on Beyond gave me a test ride in a 911, he was saying something along the lines of how he hated how these Subaru fanboys always try to race and think because they can keep up with the Porsche that they are in the same league.

yes, slightly less expensive than a used 2009 GT-R which is 4 years newer than the latest 996. not a very good answer, especially knowing that price isn't really a factor for rage2 :bigpimp:.

Just get some silicon based spray grease. I used that on my coils and they've been fine through the last couple of winters and my coils didn't have a corrosion resistant coating to begin with.

btw, a Rauh-Welt inspired Porsche is the direction you should go...considering all your cars have been flat black.

You got stuck in the C63 on Nov 27, 2009.

Snow tires are only a little better today than all seasons. The roads are pure ice out there. Crowchild was pure ice from roughly Brentwood to Nose Hill. If it wasn't for idiots stuck on hills, I would've made it back without getting stuck. Had to make a run at the big hill by my house. Almost made it up first time, until some bitch took over all the lanes trying to get unstuck and I had to brake and stop. Fucked me over.

AWD is the only thing that'll save ya on tonite's drive!

Got me there.

I was only stuck going up cuz that chick stopped sideways on a hill full of ice. I made up fine after I went down the hill and back up again.

What I meant by stuck was really stuck, need ppl to push, etc.

Apparently, I don't qualify because I bought a tiptronic haha. There's hundreds of LSD's available for the 996 MT, but none for AT. I've been looking!

You're right, looked into it and the diff fitment is different from the G50 to the PDK. :banghead:

Hey Rage, where did you get the GT2 wing? Are you thinking about going to a solid deck lid as well? Supposed to save a lot of weight.

Rage, what are you going to do on the 30cm snow days? I guess your house isn't too deep into a residential area for it to be that huge of a concern huh.

People just don't believe the winter capabilities of an AWD Porsche, I drove my C4 for two years all winter and it was lowered substantially, the thing just plowed through, except for ground clearance I honestly believe it was better than my Jeep. I'm sure Rage2's 996TT will be even more capable with a more modern AWD system.

The 964 C4 had a complicated and unreliable AWD system derived from the 959 project. The 993 had a simplified system with a viscous coupled center diff. The 996 carried that AWD system over, as did the 997 (with the exception of the Turbo).

The 997 Turbo has a brand new system that can adjust torque to each individual wheel.

So ya, my 996 has the most basic AWD system of all the AWD Porsches. :D

Hahaha I wasn't doubting the AWD of the Porsche, moreso wondering how a lowered car would fare. I remember a couple of years ago my S2000 got stuck in the winter, not because there was too much snow, but because where the tires of other cars ran was dry, and in the space between where the tires ran was a massive ice hump which pretty much hoisted my car in the air!

It's funny, I googled up 996 AWD 12 inches of snow, and this came up:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/202481-993-vs-996-in-snow.html

If you're logged in, there's a pic of him carving up a path in 12 inches of snow lol.

Hopefully they make an lsd soon for the tip, transforms the car. Im still running mine on 19" conti DWS all seasons. Actually quite good considering, but I did lol at the braking comment, certainly not as good as the acceleration. Constantly finding myself rocketing away then oh shitting as I try to slow down for a turn...

All good in the snow and cold I just can stomach the days with the hard frozen clumps that scrap at the bottom of the car and rattle the teeth out.

I have Pirelli Snowsports on mine in the stock size and so far so good. This will be my second winter on them and I am curious to see how wore down they will be by the end of it. All this dry pavement and no snow can't help tread life.

Pretty sure I saw the car on 5th Ave near 1st St this evening. Looked sweet, makes me want a Black 996TT as a year round daily even more!

Had the pleasure of going for a ride in this beast yesterday, and I can tell you without a doubt it is one of the most incredible "winter" cars I have ever been in. Had a smile ear to ear. I couldnt believe the traction it gets in ice, snow and even deep snow it just keeps pulling and pulling and the power gets down almost instantly. I've owned my fair share of fast straight line cars but nothing that would do it in the winter :nut:

I think next winter go with some even better winter tires or studs!

Oh ya and Mike your Audi isnt bad either:angel:

Hahaha thanks man... I was a little jelly about your Porsche ride. Next time maybe =)

That being said... I'd be interested to see who can accelerate faster in the snow, since hp obviously doesn't matter with the decreased traction.

I'd say hp matters. I was putting down full power by 2nd gear haha.
