View Full Version : Thinking of getting a CRZ

Talk me into it? Or talk me out of it?

The look is really growing on me, especially premium white pearl.

It'll be slow, good on gas but looks nice? Subjective right?

Aleks, what's the car cost on this car?

I like em.

If I were serious about buying one I would give Honda a year or two to come out with a Type R or an Si version or some shit. Anything with a little more jam.

Saw one recently with some mods, including neon yellow wheels.....and I liked it.

wtf

Drove a stock one. It was slow. Drove one that was supposedly "modded", wow it was slow. Car doesn't look too bad though!

well what kind of driving are you doing? I went to look at in person and its a nice look

I like the looks but I don't think I could handle the blind spots in that car, that is one of the big things they lost when they tried to take inspiration from the CRX. I need to see around me and have a good view of everything, the rear corners of the CRZ have no visibility.

We were planing on going test driving Saturday :burnout:

A coworker had one as a rental and I went out and checked it out last week.

They are nice, imo. Really nice, actually. The exterior is well designed, very sporty, and has some really nice little features that make you think - wow, they actualy thought about the design of this car.

The interior is intimate. And while it does look kinda hi tech inside, the materials seemed pretty plasticky and cheap to me. I didn't drive it, but this girl is not at all a car enthusiast and even she said it was brutally slow. There's just something about a slow commuter car posing as a sporty car that seems totally wrong.

They are also pretty expensive for what you get. Personally, I think there are better options out there. But for a commuter, there's nothing technically "wrong" with it.

I think I'll stop by Honda and take a look today. Eco-friendly daily driver that won't get me in trouble and is rare and looks kind of cool. The kind of car that only Honda fan boys buy haha

For the price it is so not worth it.

Why don't you look for something down in the states?

Drove my friends in Vancouver, the car itself is underpowered but it handles great! Good on gas and looks pretty decent. The interior is probably my favorite part.

and then throw on a GT wing for all the e-haters.

If I wasn't already in so deep on my car I'd dump it for a CRZ in a second :(

The only proper CRZ should have this engine.

I've been thinking hard about one as well, but want to see what new engine they'll come out with. Currently it's too underpowered for me. If they build something with 160hp/160tq, I'd be a little more interested.

I have thought about one lately as well. It looks fairly good, and is quite good on fuel, I checked on fuelly and people are getting mid to high thirties up to 40mpg depending on their highway/city split. The only downsides I see is that it is slow, only seats two and is kind of expensive for what you get.

Love the car but wait and see if a new engine is in the works.

I thought there was a turbo variant coming out shortly after launch? Perhaps I read that wrong, or maybe it was just wishful thinking...

heavyD
09-19-2011, 10:44 AM
Aren't they coming out with a faster version? It that's the case I would hold off as if they release a better version yours will not be desirable used much like a 2008 WRX.

Just did some reading.... and the 2012 model will not feature any significant changes. Honda has said they are researching a more powerful “hot” CRZ but nothing is confirmed yet. Online rumours think the 2013 model might have some significant changes and maybe an SI version of some sort. It’s all really vague information so who knows.

I definitely don't plan on modding though. Those days are long gone.

Looking at $27K out the door. Does seem pricey. :drama:

Skyline_Addict
09-19-2011, 11:05 AM
yeah. it seems pricey for what you get. I'd be happy if they just tossed a k20R engine in there and badge-engineered it as a Type R.

max_boost
09-19-2011, 11:09 AM
T&T Honda has a white one in stock. Oh shit. Impulse buy possibly. LOL :drama:

I'll keep it stock and low mileage because if I needed to sell, 88CRX will buy it. :bigpimp:

heavyD
09-19-2011, 11:56 AM
Hope he's ready to buy it in a year because you will grow tired fast of being the slowest car on the road. It's not a matter of 'if' it's 'when'.

These are growing on me too.

I think there's a Mugen Version about to hit the pipes. Supercharged 197hp 181 tq.

Not sure if its JDM, USDM or what.

I was thinking to myself what a wicked daily these would be with some suspension and nice wheels.

Although the kicker is the car weighs a hair over 2600. To heavy for the power.

Alternatively a FIT can still be under 2500lbs with a K20 swap.

Stock fit (09+) + Stock K20z3 + LSD tranny + Flashpro (or not even) = Best daily ever.

45Mpg, Mid 14's, Cargo room.

max_boost
09-19-2011, 12:32 PM
Wow. The Fit is $6k cheaper and so much more practical. LOL

I'm gonna hold out for a few years until there are a few used CR-Z's for a reasonable price.

Literally. It's a car that should never have been made. From all the reviews I have read it drives like crap and is slow as a dog.

I'm getting a little :nut: the paradox of choice, too much choice so it causes stress and paralysis! lol

Going to message X_EVO_X about Ralliarts in his fleet.

Or I can just stick with the GTI and return it 50,000kms over allowance in 2 years. Can you imagine the look on the managers face? Or he might just not care. hehe

I read somewhere that it runs the slalom slower than the CR-V... If that's true then the CR-Z is completely pointless. I actually prefer the Fit.

A wrist watch from Zellers has better value than all the watches in the baller watch thread. Doesn't mean you want to wear something that looks cheap as shit.

If you want a gutless eco-box, you'll want something that doesn't make you feel like a girl everytime you walk up to it.

Save up a bit longer & get a B7 or B8 Audi S4 man. The V6T in the B8 is surprisingly economical and with some tuning you're at an easy 340+ awhp. Fun, classy, winter beater. If you don't need the power and it's sounding like maybe you don't... an A4 is nearly as much fun with a bit less jam and not much more than you were thinking of spending on the CRZ.

If you don't mind looking like a boy racer, STi's are quite fun as well of course.

Interior looks cool.

Overall car looks unique however.... just doesn't seem to have that :poosie: feeling.

Maybe wait a while until you can either get a really good deal or just flat out pick something else? lol

It seems like your only thinking about getting a fit or crz because of the efficiency on gas?

It's for work so I'm staying away from the luxury brands. I might be closing a deal on a 2011 Tribeca. Practical, decent, seats 7, good utility, reliable, AWD, it's a Subaru so no surprises. $7K factory rebate plus dealer discount too. I'm just going to make sure I sleep on it for one night.

I only considered the Ralliart because it's fun and if I debadged it, no different than a Lancer GT unless you know your stuff haha :D

CRZ just looks cool until I realized it's not really worth it :nut:

If it had a performance gas motor and I had the cash, I'd easily consider one of these over any over Honda's previous FF cars. Fresh. It's like the sports car guys at Honda almost got away with a super cool car, but the head honcho wanted a hybrid instead.

i wanted to pick one up this year. The interior is what had me sold. Now I'm forgetting about a new car to work on other plans.

I'd say go for it. In white it's amazing.

This is a bit silly. IMO if you start on the fence and need opinions to either buy/not buy a vehicle, probably the best interest is not to buy.

Didn't you see the "max_boost is the original beyond baller" post? This would make sense if he didn't have the money to afford another toy, but he's a pimp.

Ralliarts are horri-awful on gas, probably 300-400km per tank so keep that in mind. Maybe check one of those new 2012 Lancer's that use the old 2.4L GTS engine(~180hp) with the AWD from an Outlander. FWD in the summer to save gas, and then AWD in the winter when you need it.

991 -> GTI -> new Subaru -> Acura MDX -> CRZ -> Fit :D

I only have 1 left now, but there is a way to get free ones from certain manufacturers.
