The one review on yellowpages.com totally looks like it was written by the owner of the company.

What do you need a outdoor wifi adapter for?

You could aways buy some small generic usb wifi adapter and attach however long usb cable you need and plastic-dip the connection. That's about as sealed as one would really need.

Not really sure the need to put it external to the vehicle either. Those windows cars usually have don't block wifi...

Im not sure if i follow, i have issues on receiving my wifi signal from a distance from my house to the garage. Also travelling would be easier with this device if internet is needed.

What are you trying to recieve wifi on from the garage?

And sure he says free wifi where ever you go, but that's connecting to unsecure networks. Which is illegal (well kind of I guess) and a huge security risk for yourself.

If you need extended range at your home, maybe just pickup a range boosting antenna for your current home router. But I'm still not really clear on what type of device you're using.

Either get a range booster or some routers can be configured as a repeater, so put it on the edge of your house or the garage and see if that helps (The router has better antennas than your laptop so it should be able to get a more solid connection)

Non-directional and larger range? Highly unlikely. The directional antennas are what give you that range (without boosting the signal). This receive doesn't boost the transmitting signal in any way. If the signal can't get to your garage, then you have nothing to receive. Get another router to act as a repeater or boost the signal on your existing router.

Whole product seems like a scam. Wonder how many people buy it thinking they'll get free internet where ever they go.

I betting it's not really FCC certified. If he's claiming that kind of range in omni directional, then it has to be putting out WAY more power than is allowed.

Also, why do you need this? What's it going to do for you that a normal USB adapter wouldn't? Or even custom making your very own antenna adapter?

Get an antenna for your access point or router. I have a bunch of these, works good and cheap! Not sure what kinda connector you need though...

Edit: I travel with the PCB one, modified the connector and velcro it to the lid of my Macbook. It really helps in getting internet at hotels, either free from APs within a few blocks, or at least good signal/speeds from the stuffed hotel airwaves.

Those look interesting Grogador. Wonder if my Wii has an external antenna connection. the Wifi streaming to netflix is choppy a lot of the time at my place.

You could just get a better router. I have the ASUS RT-N56U and it's amazing.

I have a Linksis router that has been re-programmed to pick-up wifi signals instead of broadcasting them. My shop is about 100 yards from the access point and I get "excellent" signal strength now.

For $80 and a coffee for my tech-buddy, it was a great investment. :)
