That last pic is bitchin. That's exactly what I'd want a new defender to look like.

My understanding (I didn't read the article) is that LR is trying to be far lighter and environmentally friendly. While this might bring a new buyer to their showrooms, it will most likely keep many previous buyers from staying with Land Rover. Risky move, but possibly required given the current state of oil/economy/environmental views.

And really - if you throw out what you *expect* Land Rover to be, even that little yellow one looks pretty sweet.

The last pic is pretty sweet but the first two look like concepts for a freelander and disco. The defender is supposed to be a bare bones no frills truck. I used to drive a 110 pickup working on a ranch in Oz and it was the most capable truck I've ever driven. It had no interior luxuries at all. It had an am radio and seats, but that's about where comfort ended and I loved it. They should keep it like that IMO

Wow, I think they just destroyed the heritage that vehicle had.

I don't even mind the concepts that much, they look pretty offroady. I just don't like the defender badge being used. Soccernut's got it right, there's too much history with that name.

Hah, somebody shopped the Ford Bronco concept from a few years back to get that.

Yeah, I loved the Bronco concept, I still wish Ford had put that into production.

Confirmed for north america, a new LR Defender model will be hitting the streets. What it will look like? Who knows, but if they stray to far from the defender model of present, then we'll be watching the demise of the best 4x4xFar.
