So...

They're on 1st Street between 12th and 13th. Get the full cut for $12. It's the best MTL sandwich I've ever had... ever. Cool little place, owner's a really nice guy and runs the place on his own. Awesome little business he's got going on. Hope it sticks around.

I find the owner a little annoying when you are eating, he is very in your face if I remember correctly. I mean I have no problem with an enthusiastic owner, but this guy was a bit much.

Schwartz’s has the best smoked meat in the world ok.

But for a Calgary alternative I'll try this place out.

I didn't mind that actually. It's better than having an owner and his cousins mean-mugging your shit while you're in their restau acting like you're lucky to be there.

Its not that great and its overpriced. What kind of price point are you looking for downtown, is my question. $12 +$1 for a drink is overpriced downtown? Doubt that. I thought it was delish.

I walk by that place every day on my way home from work. Not sure you can justify $12 in Calgary... Peppino's in Kensington tops out just under $10, so you better have one fucking good sandwich if you're charging more.

Regardless, Schwatz in Montreal cannot be beat. I was there for a weekend and had it twice, and maintained wood the entire time.

They have coupons in the SUTP this year. I've been thinking about checking it out but haven't got the motivation. Thanks for the push!

I tried it out and liked it!

I had the regular Montreal smoked meat sandwich for $10. It came with your choice of potato salad, macaroni salad or coleslaw and a pickle on the side. The size of the sandwich was alright, meat was moist and piled high. They give a choice of two or three mustard condiments, I think one of them was house made.

The deli itself is kind of small with lots of seating available. I like how bright it is with a high ceiling. The chandelier was a neat touch.

The guy working the counter (not sure if he was the owner) was friendly and great! Not in your face at all.

Co-worker and I are going back next week.

They're on par;

I prefer Myhre's over on 11st; they've got a better rye...

BUT, caught on this summer, costco sells the dunns briskets... :D For the price of 2 sammiches, I can MSM my heart out - with grey poupon

I still prefer schwartz's - but it seems since metro went under, it's dunns or nothing

Amen. And that place in Marda Loop isn't even worth mentioning. Looking forward to checking out Kickers tho! Thanks OP!

Unfortunately - cafe metro seems to have been the place that brought it in... Alberta king of subs used to use schwartz's - but I'm 99% sure they've switched to dunns.

I keep wondering about shipping some briskets, price to buy isn't too bad, its overnighting a cooler that gets pricey...

^^you'd have to do a beyond group buy to help share the shipping costs. i'd be interested in taking a few pounds depending on what the shipping comes to.

I order full briskets from Schwartzs 2-3 times per year, man it's the best ever. It's a staple for fathers day (my dad wouldn't come over without it!), tailgating, Saturday night get togethers after Saturday afternoons getting loaded in the pub!

Last time I ordered 4, and total cost including shipping for 4 full briskets was $437. This is cheap considering an average brisket will feed 12-15 easy (thick cut) with leftovers. Typically the day after I will chop up the leftovers and make smoked meat spaghetti sauce, oh ya!

The lady I deal with in the office there is named Janice, I just pop her an email and she has all of my CC details and delivery info on file. Order by 8am today here by 10 am tomorrow. They aren't in a cooler, they are shipped vacuum sealed in a Fedex box. They are safe out of the fridge for up to 4 days. Checkout their website for ordering info.
