I got this strange call from some guy claiming hes from "Windows Technical Maintence Department"

Claiming my computer is infected and sending out all these errors. And says they will result in the "deletion of all my memory".

Says that the software security of my computer has expired and all this stuff. Which is BS.

So i asked him how to fix it and he says that I have to pay a one time fee and go to this page.

Has anyone else got this call?

i received this call a few weeks ago. i asked them how my mac could be infected and why windows would be calling me. I got hung up on.

A few of my clients have said that they received these calls recently too. Just the latest nigerian/south african prince trying to get a few bucks.

Good deal though. You can get 5 year support for 399 cents. I don't think they realize our currency symbol is a dollar sign haha.

As soon as they spelled "your" as "ur", I'd assume scam.

Got a call from them too. Said my computer was "infected and sending messages". He then proceeded to recommend that I talk to one of their techs. I told him to send the tech down to my house, and that I'd pay them extra. He didn't want to send the tech down :(. Would have been a cool experiment haha :guns:

Scam.

There's another thread about it somewhere.

The call me every couple weeks and I do the same thing to them every time.

They call.
I boot up an Ubuntu laptop that happens to have a copy of winxp in virtual box.
The to their thing
They get most of the way through and then I whip the cursor over in the middle of their 'install' and double click a shortcut to a porno type trojan that I use for testing.
They freak .. "The usualy words either on the phone or in the chat window are (insert Indian accent... )" Oh my God What what is that"

I say thats the virus you say I have now lets see how good you are and remove it.
They hang up.
I reset my snapshot back to the same state it was before to lay and wait for the next time.

This is from another thread also funny ...

I just had this run around they called me 5 times.

"mike" told me my computer was infected tells me to run some programs to tell him how many infections I had.... sends me to "tech guy" I hang up when I hear the hold music they call again I hang up again at the hold music and one more time hang up at tech guy....
eventually "mike" stops calling and "peter" the "tech guy" calls. "peter" tells me to look at my mouse. I inform him my computer is touch screen and he must hold so I can apply my 3D glasses.
At this point he calls me a stupid motherfucker and hangs up:D then calls back 2 mins later by mistake? and realizes its the "stupid motherfucker gets angry again and hangs up.

Update: just received another call aprox 30mins after 1st call
this time its "bob" wtf I told bob to go fuck off and scam someone else he fucking calls back again and once again piss-off.... he even called a 3rd time I just didn't answer and he proceeds to leave a long empty message on my machine.

Update again: got the same phone call.... I just said I wasnt at my computer since i knew it was the same guy still angry and again he called me a cock sucker mother fucker and hung up.
and then he called right back yelled some obscenities and mentions something about "mike" I dont really know what he said and hung up again. I must have really pissed him off. :dunno:

I wish I recorded my last call with these fuckers.

I strung them along for over an hour, I'm pretty sure he wasn't able to hang up on my because by the time I was done with him you could hear the frustration in his voice. When I finally told him I was on his website he was so happy, he asked me what it said, I read a quote from a website that says if these scammers call you they're lying about working for Microsoft and if possible, please try to waste some of their time.

He was pissed. Calling me a mother fucker and numerous other things. It was awesome. I hate these fucks, I wish I had recorded the call.

At one point I told him I had to reboot my router and to bare with me as it's an old router on it's last leg and is making some strange noises. I went into the kitchen, put the phone beside a pot, started hitting it with a wooden spoon, went into the bathroom, put the phone my the toilet and flushed it, went into the garage put the phone by my cordless drill and turned it on for a bit.

I changed my voice and went from no accent at all, to a russian accent, to an east indian accent, back to russian...

I swear to god after what I did to these guys they put ME on a do not call list, they've never called back since.

Another one to look out for is "Techmasters". They get you to let them sign on to your computer remotely. A week or so later, your computer mysteriously dies.

These guys were calling us several times a day for a few weeks. I think it was because I was a girl they were getting on the phone they just kept calling back no matter how many times I told them to FO. The last time they called I was dealing with a tired cranky baby and a toddler that was driving me insane. I answered the phone, he gave me his shpiel, I said "ugh, you guys again" and then I asked him to hold on a minute while I started my computer. He said alright, so I put my screaming baby in her high chair, put the phone down on the counter beside her and let him listen to my baby scream for a few minutes while I dealt with my son. When I was ready to take my daughter up to bed I quietly put the phone to my ear to see if he was still there, and he was, talking to someone on the other end in whatever language he natively speaks and then I hung up. They haven't called back.

Hahahahahah...

I just had a call from the guys at LogMeIn123 dot com, the phone number showed up as 000-000-0000, but he did have my first and last name.

He got me to open my even viewer and asked me to count the number of errors, I SLOWLY counted starting from 1 and got up to almost 140 before he stopped me. He was still calm and patient at this point.

After about 35 minutes of reading him the DNS error google chrome gives you when you ipconfig -release and try to go to a web site I asked him if I should plug in my router before we continued any further... That's when he started getting a little frustrated.

Once we got the internet going he kept telling me to hit "Windows+R" and "blank it", I told him to hold on while I go find a blanket, 5 minutes later I asked him how he knew I was cold and now that I had a blanket we could continue. That's when he started getting a little more frustrated.

An hour into the call he kept telling me to type "http://" but every time he said the world "Slash" I started asking him if he meant Slash the guitarist? and if he'd ever seen Guns N Roses in concert while Slash was still in the band? By now he was even more frustrated, lol.

Around 90 minutes into the call he told me I'm having internet problems, I said "I know, I'm so glad you called to help me fix it". I've never heard someone say "Oh my god" so many times in that short of a time frame in my life.

At 96 minutes he told me he'd have to call me back, I told him I'd be patiently waiting... We'll see if they call back, if they do I'll update the thread again.

Sweet. Got another call from these fuckers today but I was too busy to do my normal waste as much of their time as I possibly can routine. I just thought I'd see how rude I could be to him before he hung up on me.

I really don't think he was expecting a white guy to call him a bhenchod or ask him if he still likes it when his mom plays with his toti. Hahahah the things you learn from your East Indian friends can really come in handy some times. Ah it was wicked he kept saying "I am not a scammer! You shut up!" followed by a "I'd like to cross the line with you but I'm not allowed. You shut up!"

Any of you get a call from a Telemarketing scam about having a virus on your computer?

LOL

I just spent about 20 minutes on the phone with one fucking around...LOL

They could barely speak english and attempted to explain to me that my Windows computer had a virus on it.

After getting them to repeat each sentence about 10 times, I finally got bored and told them I couldn't find the button with the four flags on it and asked them where on my MAC it was located.

He started yelling at me, to the point he finally hung up on me...LOL

Yep just waste some time if you can, get their hopes up - I was all the way to the logmein screen that grants them remote access, just typing in the numbers, one... by... one... then told him to hang on a sec and went and watched TV. No idea how long until he gave up.

One of my work mates pretends to be hard of hearing.. then starts trying to sell his computer to them, asking for their Visa & shipping address.

Another time he walked into the bathroom with them on speaker phone, pretended to take a shit and flush the toilet. That time someone yelled at the caller from the background "Hang up that fucking phone".
