New food truck is about to hit the streets in Calgary called the Noodle Bus. The first asian food truck to hit the streets in town.

Should be interesting to see how well this works :)

Nice, so is it going to be hot soup in a styrofoam cup?

A ramen truck should be next. It'll be even nicer if there are bench seating on the side.

Haha, I thought of the exact same thing! That wouldn't work out too well at all.

Maybe it's not soup but rice vermicelli? But where is the "viet" in the truck when you don't have pho... gotta have the soup I guess haha!

I see a McD Hot Coffee type lawsuit coming.

Unless the food truck also comes with a portable bench on the side. Something similar to this:

Just visited this truck.

- Pho (Beef or Chicken) - $6.50, add satay $0.50

- They have vermicelli bowls for $8.00 or something

- Obligatory Spring Rolls and Salad Rolls, I think $4.50 or something

I only ordered the pho satay which is pretty good. The satay is actually blended in with the broth and tasted coconutty... unlike other restaurants where satay is just a spoonful of chili oil.

By the time I walked back to the office to eat it, the noodles have consumed the broth.

I had the beef pho with satay today. It was a 5 minute walk back to my office and it was pretty mushy by the time I started eating.

Would not recommend the soup.

Pho Hoai and Sunny's are my two favorites. Pho Dau Bo and Basil are excellently good as well but their Satay is just too spicy. haha

I don't think I'll go out of my way to get Pho out of a truck. :nut:

That's proabably the only way pho could work, if you went too big it would be so hard to eat and you'd end up getting burnt for sure. That satay does look tasty tho

The bowl sizes seem fine. Looks comparable to the size of bowl from places such as Thai Express. This concept would work if they don't park 1-2 blocks from the nearest Viet restaurant.

The only proper way to get noodle soup to go is to separate the noodle from the soup, ie two containers, though there'll be more cost and not exactly environmentally friendly.

I've tried their lunch boxes at their food court restaurant Chicken For Lunch in Scotia Centre and its pretty good for this white man style Chinese food. Better quality than say Manchu Wok shit but its not like OMG amazing as white people make it out to be.

But they are Edmonton's longest standing (white) Chinese restaurant so props to them on that.

The review... is there an affiliation of sorts?

I hear a lot of the positives, but any negatives? portioning? do you get bean sprouts, basil, and lime? available sauces at the truck or in portioning cups to go?

I didn't ask about affiliations but I did meet up with the truck later near Pacific Place which leads me to believe it may be affiliated with the place in Pacific Place.

My only negative was the stock was a little on the bland side for my taste. I had it with satay and even then I wanted a lot more heat out of it. There wasn't mint/basil/sprouts and I didn't notice if there was and of the red "cock" sauce outside, I wonder if I asked if they would have provided it.

10-19-2011, 01:39 PM
Depending on how good/fresh the sugar cane is, I use to chew on it. It's got sweet juice in it, why not? You can swallow it for extra fibre too :D .

Hoisin comes in one of those little plastic sauce "cups".
My white friend promptly took it for his vermicelli.

I've never really used the hoisin but I don't shy away from the flaming red cock sauce that is normally at pho restaurants.

i think he was asking if you are affiliated with the truck, since it's not a "raving" review, but also doesn't really discuss any of the negatives. I have to admit that I wondered the same thing when I read it.

Unknown303
10-19-2011, 03:25 PM
Well I'm not affiliated in any way.

Yeah I didn't go very positive or negative. But there wasn't anything with the food that was really driving me that far either direction either. overall my experience there was definitely more into the positive. The Skewers and dessert were really good while the pho left me wanting a little more. But I wasn't let down by eating there, I had a good time, enjoyed the experience and will be eating there again for sure.

so this food truck has been out for a couple weeks now..

is it actually good? the internet reviews out there seem to rave about it, but for all the pho regulars, is it ACTUALLY good pho?

for some reason I'm not all that excited to want to try it out, because I'd rather just goto a pho restaurant, not have to wait in the cold, and be able to sit down and enjoy my pho, instead of sitting on a park bench, or walking back to the office/car with mushy noodles.
