Anyone run into any houses with what may be excessive halloween decorations? Any thoughts or comments? I used to always see a house in Red Deer that would be totally decked out.. Must have lots of disposable income.

This youtube video kinda got me thinking on this topic..

THAT IS SO COOL. WHAT THE FUCK...

Oh and regards to excessive, I see some houses in Calgary with a lot of props on their front yard. When a huge gust of wind comes, sometimes you'll see all of it scattered everywhere and it doesn't look good at all.

There is a house in lethbridge that basically gets transformed into the army of the dead castle with skeletons everywhere. Pretty cool.

Christmas is also only one day, yet people go ape shit over their decorations too.

When we were driving back from spokane and going through some of the boonie towns, some of the houses were decorated to the max. I wouldn't do it myself, but I like seeing when people go all out with Christmas and Halloween decorations. It really is for the kids.

My neighbors like 2 doors over have a bunch of shit on their lawn/house. Halloween and Christmas are overrated.

There's a lot of houses in pump hill that go all out.

These inflatable shits have catered to the ballers very nicely. One dood in our area has like 5-6 huge inflatable decorations around his yard, must be a couple hundred bucks for that shit at least.

There's a giant black cat I saw at Walmart and it's head rotates, fucking creepy LOL. Then I saw one on someones lawn. It was actually only about $50, I would have expected it to be more expensive.:nut:

I do up my yard because it is fun for me, lets me be a kid again that can afford to do cool things, and the kids really enjoy it, even if it is for one day.

What bugs me though? I tape off my lawn to keep the kids from tripping over guide wires and extension cords, and keep my lawn from getting damaged. And kids and parents still jump over it for a short cut, or to take pictures beside the inflatables. That drives me bonkers.

I have that one, bought it last year, and the kids love it.

I went tame last year as I could not find all my decorations after moving. this year will be better.

Less than you think. I've got two inflatable skulls that sit about 4' high, and 3' diameter, they were $15 each on sale the day after Halloween.

I should take a picture of my neighbors, some will call it excessive but its pretty sweet.

He sets up a haunted maze through his garage and has a pretty sweet lawn setup.. looks sweeter at night. He also gets a bunch of his buddys to dress up on halloween and wander the street... its kind of like screamfest. I think he also takes donations for an adpot-a-pet foundation in Calgary.

Back around 2004 or something one of my friends used to live in Douglas Glen and his neighbour built a paper mache skeleton as tall as his house and hung it from the roof. The Herald came and took a picture and put in the paper. It was awesome and all the kids loved it. There's also a couple houses in Douglas Glen that do something like what pf0sh0 dedscribed, they set up a maze type thing in the garage and I remember this one year when in one of the houses a guy in a clown suit would burst out and chase people around with a chain saw.

I give props to all the houses that partake in any over the top holiday stuff.. I remember back in the 80's/90's when i was a little kid and like every house in our community did big halloween and christmas displays... nowdays everyone is too caught up in work/life and its sad to see that alot of houses dont do any of that stuff anymore. I love carving pumpkins and ill do it every year. To me the more over the top, the better. Love the big super cheesy displays.

drove by a completely decked-out house today and remembered we have (window) warranty work to do there, so I know the people who live there- it's a guy of 45-50 who lives with his mother.
Another house that's heavily decorated is on the next block from me, and it's a married couple in their mid-to-late-twenties who have no children.
Now, if I had kids, I would steer them clear of decorated houses where the occupants didn't have kids, so I don't know why these people decorate their houses:dunno:

edit- on the other hand, if you have kids, have at 'er.

I have decorations and I don't have kids. What's the problem? Should I not hang christmas lights either?

I decorated mine so kids know they can trick or treat on halloween night at my place. :dunno:

I got close to 100 kids last year. We used to get around that much in Douglas Glen when I used to get candy, last year I stayed at home to give it out and I only got 9 kids. This was on the estate side of Cranston btw, tons of retirees.

No kids here either.

I decorate for fun and buy full size chocolate bars, even an alternate candy for kids with peanut allergies.

I don't have kids either, but I like to decorate and make it fun because as a kid, I always remembered the houses that had the decorations as the most fun houses to go to. So yes, I do it for the kids even though I may not plan to have any...

Seems like a lot of kids go to the mall now :(

Man I remember having to buy costumes 2 sizes too big in anticipation of having to wear it over my winter jacket. Kids are pussies now, especially with the nice weather they've been getting these last few years!

its not the kids, its the parents. most parents nowadays won't even let their kids go trick-or-treating with their friends. the parents must escort them everywhere... how lame.

damn it! as sweet as that is, even halloween is trying to play out that song.

back on topic, as much as I would never go overboard on Halloween decorations I appreciate people that do. I remember as a kid you always looked forward to going to the few houses in your neighborhood that went all out. Then you'd talk about those houses for a week with your friends, so I say all power to them. I personally think it shows a good amount of community spirit to put some effort into your Halloween decorations

Yeah, I think that's the one he means. She's a nice person, crazy dog though. I work on Northmount everyday, so I see all the houses, and that's the only one that's really decked out. She goes all out for most holidays, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc.

My neighbor is finalizing his Halloween set up and I just noticed the Hurst he parked on our lawn... he bought it a couple months ago and plated it with "LAZCRUZE" I was wondering what he was going to use it for!...

If you guys are wondering hes opening it from Sat-Mon this weekend.

This is why Canada is boring, so many apathetic people just nat really caring to make any effort. Taking the time to celebrate and party adds a little spice to the everyday routine.

My wife loves Halloween and like to decorate. Sure it's extra work, but my kids like too, and if I can make the day a little more enjoyable for other kids on the street...why not? We put most of the decorations up like a week and a half ago, so it's not just a one day thing.

Relax. Take time to enjoy the little things in life like Halloween and Christmas decorations. Doing things like that (especially when you have kids) helps create memories and gives you something to do.
