9 teens/young adults in one car rolled over last night in front of a police unit, on John Laurie. Driver, 19, already charged with DUI.

But seriously...a 'compact' car, with NINE in it? Lacking common sense much...?

I'm sure we've all been there before. I remember as a teen, we had 13 people stuffed into one of these, and made it out to Banff and back.

Car handles quite differently with that many people in the car.

EMS spokesman Adam Loria said six ambulances were necessary and the car’s occupants were taken to three hospitals.

“All nine patients were transported in serious, but stable, non-life threatening condition,” said Loria.

Police have charged Nicholas Briere, 19, with impaired driving over .08.

I've had 15 in a 1990 Chevy Blazer. This could have been any of us......probably not drunk though.

I was wondering what was going on as all these firetrucks and ambulances rushed down john laurie. I was heading down that road and was asked to stop and turn around by police. Couldn't see far enough ahead to what had happened.

I feel lacking...

The best I ever did was 13 in a '75 Oldsmobile Wagon. Hell that's barely above comfortable.

13??? I get annoyed with 5 people in a four door sedan for any period of time, haha.

It's usually the first half of grade 10 where only 1 guy in the crew has a car. as time goes by more people get cars and it stops lol.

good to hear that everyone is okay though. lesson learned for the dumbass who was driving.

Car handles quite differently with that many people in the car. 13? Holy sh*t  . One of my buddies has a 323 and 5 of us got into the car I was in the passenger seat with 3 at the back, for some reason the guys at the back started punching the sh*t out of each other and all the shifting weight made the car swerve like crazy. Compact cars are f*ing deadly. :P On topic the driver should only be allowed to operate a power wheelchair from now on.

Everyone involved shares the blame in this case. They we dumb enough to let someone drunk drive, then get in the car that is driven by a drunk driver and then overloaded it by a good margin. Stupidity kills.

Zero sympathy.

This was in grade 10, and it was a mix of white chicks, white dudes and black dudes. I didn't even have my license yet, and the only one with access to a car lol.

But yea, thinking back, it was pretty gay, there was a guy laying across the front, head to my crotch haha.

The 323 had 82hp, I think we topped the car out at 70 on the highway. The nice thing about having that many people, was that it was in the middle of winter and we got stuck on one of the residential roads in Banff. Everyone got out, and it took 2 seconds of pushing to get unstuck haha.

I seem to recall stuffing 8 into my 88 tercel h/b... 3 front (she was hot, I didn't mind if she almost sat in my lap), 3 back, 2 in the hatch...

On Sunday, 2011 October 30, at approximately 1:30am, a Dodge Caliber, with three male occupants, was travelling northbound on Sarcee Trail NW at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to stop for a red light at John Laurie Boulevard and was struck in the intersection by a westbound Honda Ridgeline truck being driven by a 44 year old male. The collision caused the Dodge to lose control and roll several times before coming to rest. A 20 year old male was ejected from the car and was transported to hospital in critical, life threatening condition where he was later pronounced dead. The 20 year old male driver of the Dodge was declared deceased at the scene. A 19 year old rear passenger received minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The driver, and lone occupant, of the Honda Ridgeline was not injured. Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be aggravating factors in this collision. No charges are anticipated at this time.

Either this is happening more often lately or they have started to release more information to the press to try and push the new 0.05 laws here, me thinks.

FYI, it wasnt my car, i opted for the DD that night, no D&D for this guy.

The worst part is that nothing productive is going to come out of this. The politicians are all going to be quick to jump on the 0.05 ship or increasing penalties like it is somehow going to prevent this from happening again, and I completely disagree.

The people who are doing this are fully aware of what they are doing, and they feel that taking the risk is justified. I'm not saying I'm brilliant and know the solution to these systemic issues off the top of my head - but I'm sure that increased transit service and more taxis would make a bit of a difference. I can probably think of 50 times when I have called multiple taxi numbers and been left with nothing but a busy signal for close to an hour.
