i have no idea what it would take to put together an instant msg section but i thought it might be interesting. there could be rooms based on different sections of the forum, it might give "Ask leo" a little more pep hehe :D . anyways, its just a thought :)

This has come up several times already - the general consensus is that a chat room would defeat the purpose of an online forum.

Did we have a thread for people to post their MSN names and/or ICQ numbers? You guys can chat there!

I say its a good idea, but the chat room is only up for like 2 hours a day or something, like in the evening or something? :dunno:

Someone could make a beyond chatroom on msn, I believe you can start your own room on there. :dunno:

I shit you not. Mind you it's not expensive, but requires you to disclose your Credit Card # to Microsoft if you want to use the chat if you in the states and it's shutdown in numerous countries. Still free in Canada though. Went to it once, not bad if you are a specific topic room versus the main room zoo full of pervs.

uh...yeah....at any given time there's between 120K-170K people on efnet, and undernet is bigger than efnet now.....only newbies that don't know what they're doing use anything other than IRC :P

haha that is so true, ive been on efnet for about 7 years and channels get smaller, splits keep occuring more frequently and channels are filled with bots to try keep the channel when a split happens.

but i love it and i will never leave. all my old highschool buddies all go to a channel on efnet and shoot the shit and we plan the evenings activities and parties.

if people wanted to chat why not make an msn button along the bottom of there posts (with the profile, pm, search and buddy buttons) just have a button where people can put there messenger address if they want to talk to people. Just a thought, I've seen it done on other sites and it seems to work.

because msn is down right now

and why flood the forum/pm box with posts? it eats up bandwidth

wouldn't it be easier if someone start a channel in IRC? That way the forum doesn't have to add any new features. :dunno:

Does anyone use AIM anymore?

Ben
05-08-2005, 03:08 PM
Not really man, AOL is not populat in Canada. Dialup internet is a thing of the past it seems here, I cant think of the last time I saw a Canadian ISP providing dialup internet on TV commercials. All Ad's are for broadband, which doesn't surprise me. Canada is the number 2 country in the world for broadband usage per capita. Broadband internet is also available to 85% of the canadian population. Canada was also the first country in the world to offer broadband DSL internet, in November 1996. So with all these fun facts, I dont know anyone whom uses AOL/AIM, except people who live in the USA.

I have DSL yet I still use AIM. I dont have as my ISP or my browser, just as my chat client. I can still IM, Chat, ect...

I dont think many people here use Dial-up either, so I dont see what difference it makes.

That was interesting info on canada and broadband though, I never knew any of that. For some reason, you never hear about many things involving other places, when you live in the states, unless it's really big or the US is involved somehow.

AIM has nothing to do with AOL service other than the fact that its owned by the same company. Its just another IM client like MSN. Ive used it for years, never had a subscription to AOL, nor has anyone I know on my contact list.

It actually uses the same network as ICQ (which no one uses anymore)

Yes, I know that, however AIM is NOT common in Canadian homes because AOL is NOT popular, that was the point I was getting at. When we view our lovely CRTC regulated television programming, the only advertisements we see are for MSN, and thats really about it. American stations flood you with the AOL/AIM way of life, as well as MSN, but we dont see it here to the extent the US does. That and windows comes with messenger, so getting on the AIM bandwagon actually takes effort and looking around, unless you signed up with AOL for your ISP and get all that fun stuff preloaded onto your desktop. I personally do not like AIM, and this seems to be a pretty solid consensus with most people here. :) Thats all I was getting at :)

Dont you have to pay for MIRC. i remeber a while back when they had the tutorial on how to get free porn i jumped on that right away but after like a money i couldn't open it any more it said i had to buy it.

No, mIRC is just a program to get onto an IRC network, there are other free ones out there, wait the 5 seconds and hit continue, or be like me and never reboot and its never an issue...

And to whoever started the fortress.fdfnet.net network, maybe its just me, but you don't even stay in your own channel....
