Does this count as the first day of snow?
Guessing how many accidents in Calgary is usually pretty fun! :)

207

No different than any other day. Not really snow today, even up in the NW. Nothing is sticking to the ground.

Really fucking pissed me off waking up to the snow though, lol.

I haven't raked my yard yet (don't have time until tomorrow), and the leaves were dry it would have been SO easy to clean up. Now it's going to be gross and take forever :(
First day of snow though... think I'll start my winter beard today.

I still have to mow one more time and I've been putting if off for awhile now.

Only snowed for about 20 minutes down here. Doesn't count until we get the first big one and the city shuts down for 3 days.

Hey Guys,

Calgary Beacon
Calgary Police report this afternoon that due to the massive amount of precipitation this morning there were 8000 accidents on Calgary roads. This is average in Calgary as police report Calgary drivers are generally horrible.

wait what?! when was it snowing? I've noticed a lot of weather differences from N to S. like that flash flood that I had no idea was going because it was sunny down here in SW heh.

I'd say a first snow day would have to be the whole city as someone said before

even though snow was not sticking to the ground, people were still acting like morons. this nissan titan in front of me on my way to school mashed his pedal every turn and would let the back end slide out. i could tell he wasnt just loosing grip cuse the engine would rev up before his back end came loose. nearly took out a lot of families in their little civcs.

yeah with the hazards on and no one in it, i just started taking the lwr springbank road this summer to get to work because of the shittiness of LRT construction on sarcee/17th, the backroads areound there are a plently so i'm guessing i'll make it faster than sarcee/trans-can.

I had no issues this morning. It was a little bit slippery by my house but the well used roads were just wet. Stoney was a bit snowy though so everyone did 60. I did pass the white ghost truck as he troddled along doing 80

Retards doing 50km/h on Stoney Trail. Slippery, but even on Kumho all-season I was fine. Just made the drifting a little more exciting. Looks like deep NW (rocky ridge) is getting a good chunk of snow.

I'm gonna leave all-seasons on until the snow decides to stay for good.

Pretty crazy down south this morning. Got up at 6:30 and no snow outside, left the door at 7:45 and the streets are covered. There was a black ford truck that smacked straight centered into a pole by 52nd St. The roads were pretty iced up all the way up 52nd.

I'd guess 125 accidents today bob, 125.

I don't get why guys with big lifted trucks run mudders in the winter... not saying that Ford was running mudders, but I see so many trucks with mud tires in the winter and I always wondered why?? Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought mud tires tires would be horrible in icy conditions.

i'm actually scheduled to get the winters put on tomorrow, so i'm still driving on my summers. roads were slick in some spots, but nothing too bad especially considering how slow traffic was moving on glenmore and crowchild this morning. my car was ABSing and slipping around on the backraods.

i'm gonna take off from work around noon today, try and make it home before too much show accumulates.

They are. However they also kick ass in off-road snow conditions, so I just assume they're normally up north in the patch.

They are total shit on ice / slippery but they do real well deep snow. I would think for mostly city driving guys wouldn't keep them on but who knows, maybe these guys are running out to rig sites and such all winter.

The other possibility is that oversized mudders are damn expensive. Maybe the guy blew all his cash on these tires and doen't have money leftover for a normal set of rims & tires.

No you are right. On ice they are shit but on snow they are actually really good because there is lots of room for the snow to bite. Because Calgary is more ice than snow I would want to run snow tires.

I know a few friends with trucks who run MT's though.

They are. They turn into hockey pucks. They work decently well in snow, but the durometer is too high and lack the siping to be effective on ice.

On my Duramax I never had traction issues in the winter running toyo mt's They just always seemed to get traction somehow, although with the big diesels having 8000 pounds on the ground helps.

My Jeep with MTs was a little different but still very manageable.

141 Property as of 10:00, 13 injury, nothing too major.

People on global of course are blaming the city for their own shitty driving.

Q: "Why wasn't the road sanded already?"
A: Because the sanding truck was caught up in the traffic caused by your accident.

just drove from the University to Acadia on summers. The main and main-ish roads are pretty clear, but the very back roads are snow-covered and icy.

I was leaving my parking spot on a snow-covered back road, was driving very slow and coming to a stop when I realized I couldn't stop. As I slid towards the curb, I noticed tracks leading into the curb from where a car had previously hit it. wasn't able to stop and smoked the sides of my wheels into the curb. No damage that I could see or feel, except I scuffed the rims on that side of the car. Oh well they're just stock rims anyhow, gives them character.

i'm glad i left when I did though, i bet the roads freeze up once the sun goes down.

can't wait to get my winters on tomorrow morning LOL.

I ran unsiped BFG M/Ts last winter, drove carefully and didn't get into any trouble but I could tell they were less than ideal. I've got the same tread pattern this year but I've siped the middle lugs, which should definitely improve ice traction. Besides, sipes > kerfs. ;)

I run nitto mud grapplers on every truck I have and I find them to be better then winters. I'm basing this on a direct comparison of my infiniti with blizzaks to my awd (yes, awd, not 4x4) dodge truck with 35inch mud grapplers.

I did just over 300km in my truck today and it was a dream. This 300km includes all of deerfoot, 14th, glenmore and all over the shitty ass springbank roads.
