Holy crap! I don't think the whale could swallow a person though? unless you were at the perfect angle. It would probably bite down on you and spit you back out?

It's pretty intimating when you are close to something that massive. I don't think they would hurt you on purpose but it also doesn't take much for them to hurt you. Like this,

that particular whale, is a filter feeder, it will gulp all its food, and push the water out through its brill: Humpback whales are of the baleen variety

Most don't most have baleen instead of teeth and just swallow whole. Likely if they ever caught a human they would just spit them right back out.

Ya, that was a baleen whale, it likely chose that spot to avoid the surfers, they can look up to see what's above them.
