So does anybody on here have experience with rig boilers? I just got on a service rig as a boilerhand. No previous rig experience so they are throwing me on a rig crew for a few weeks first. Any tips for me? What's the job like? I have a 4th class power engineering ticket so I'm not totally untrained.

Depends on the rig and what they're doing. I've seen plenty of boiler hands that only ever had to drag hoses out at the start of the day and put them away at the end.

As long as you can keep your boiler working you'll do fine. That's the most important part. The crew will show you where to hook up to the tanks and pump. If you can carry a section of braided steam line and swing a hammer, you'll do great!

Tips: don't let anything freeze up. Ever.

Only boilerhand I ever came across was drilling out in Nova Scotia.

Buddy sat on a chair in the boiler all day and only moved for his relief at the end of the day.
