It's closing after 10 years... Went clubbing first time here! So many memories. :)

Y'all glad/sad to see it go? Discuss!

I had a lot of fun there 3-4 years ago but it hit the shit soon after.

I remember going to see DJ Lisa Lashes live one night in early 2003. I lost my hearing for a few days, it was bloody loud in there.

It also got so stuffy with condensation that it was actually raining in there... lol...

I've been there a few other times too... but that's the one evening that stands out.

+1. I remember in first year, it was the shit; when I really started living my life!

In terms of atmosphere and music, it got progressively worse as the years went on. Still sad to see it go. =(

I wonder what the next 'it' club is going to be.

Had a fight there, it wasnt even my "fight" just got a chair thrown at me by a rowdy native guy. IMHO, all the clubs in calgary have been really starting to look like shit holes to me. Its sad, occasionally i enjoy a few drinks and so on at a club. oh well.

That was a CP Rail place to go after work (got a sweet discount too) but it has gone way, way down hill the past couple of years.... I am sure Craft Beer Market had a hand in it's eventually demise...

Saw the Crystal Method there back in 2002-ish. Now, where will all the hardened 5'2 asians go now?

Never enjoyed going there, even in its prime. I would have to blame it on the repeating songs and the large population of amatures who read "The Game". Glad to see it go. Maybe a classy joint can take its place.

Remember when someone videod an indian guy not being allowed into the whiskey. Where will the ethnic nobodies go now? Will they still whine about not being white? Where???

All those gucci/prada fanny packs will pop up somewhere else soon enough.

Never went, don't care. Craft is sweet though, great gluten free menu

I only ever went there to see DJs that were in town, and the sound system wasn't that great anyways. (although better than tantra/the mansion... that place has horrible speakers.)

They aren't actually closing down...they going to same route as the old Tantra. It's going to get renovated and open up with a different name, same owner.

Went there to meet friends a few weeks ago, $13 for cover charge! Those fucking pricks! Like its a high end club or something... Too bad it is the same owner bringing in a new venue.

Whiskey wasn't that great...but compared to other places in Calgary it still is above average. It's just going to be flipped into another bar...same old crap aha.

I remember when they first opened it was the place to be & be seen.

With all the trendy clubs that come & go it amazes me that The Back Alley & The Ranchmans keep on cruisin'.

surprised it lasted this long to begin with, that place went downhill... the most fun I had there was about 6-7 years ago. But thank god for Commonwealth  sick new joint.

There's lots of 'it' clubs: West, ubu and sociale are a few, even though I don't think any of them are special.

I'm glad to see Whiskey go. It used to be so good, 21 and 25+, amazing on friday nights and a good crowd. Now they'll let anyone in and 80% of the people in there are Somali. They have to give it a new image because it's just s shithole now.

The Ranchman's is world renound. Some tend to forget its well known due to the stampede and because it's been in several movies. It'll always be legendary.

UBU lounge is more of a restaurant than a club I find. Food is thankfully decent.

still miss plush and cherry lounge sometimes when i think about clubbing, had the best times at those places, possibly since they were smaller and the fights were funnier

They're going to do an enitre face lift on the location and the Choi brothers are still going to be running the place but changing the name and re-doing the place all together.

Well, it is unique, due to the style. That's why I think the Back Alley's gonna die, as they've sort of decided to get rid of their image, and go with the common club. It's already seemingly not as lined up as it used to be on the weekends. Friday and Saturday every week were both long line-ups when it was a rock bar.

I’d like to see some classier 20s and 30s style night clubs with tables, booths, food, drink, live entertainment and music that’s not too loud so you can still have a conversation. There are still places like that in Europe but here it’s just douchebag clubs with dance music and loud bass

Are they renovating it and opening up under a new name??

Don't forget Denny Andrew's, Curly's, Spagucci's, The Fox, The Tasmanian Ballroom, Sole' Luna, Senior' Frogs, Malarkie's, Grapes, Yucatan, the old Den, The Bank, The Swan, the original Republik, The Westward Club, Studio A-Go-Go, The Castle, The Embassy, The Capital, The Palace, whatever that bar inside the Keg Macleod was called, whatever the bar downstairs at Smugglers was called (Backstreet?), Misty's strip club - used to go there for lunch when I was in high school (Manning) and return to class with a raging hardon...lol, the King Eddie, Gargoyles, Bourbon Street...

So much booze and pussy, I'm actually kind of surprised I still have a liver and that some crazy broad hasn't burnt my house down...lol.:D

Commonwealth will be as close as you can get to your 20s and 30s style night club. The front section is pretty tame and quiet-ish. Has an awesome, fun crowd!

How about the Night Gallery? That was always a good time. Gotta love those urinals that are just a step off of the hallway to the side... lol... super trashy.

It was a fun nightclub though. I also liked Bourbon Street & the Metro. There was also one that was formed out of Misty's and Dooey Stevens... Pandemonium? That was decent too.

Probably both. I see this sort of thing all the time, but it's usually more discrete. Usually it's something minor like asking anyone with dark skin color for two pieces of ID instead of one (when I haven't been and I'm like 10 years younger than the dude in front of me).

You must not have been asian then, haha.

I remember when Palace just closed down, (I think I was around 19 or 20), Whiskey was the place to go to. But they wouldn't let asians in unless they:
A) Were 25 or over
B) Had 5 pieces of government ID
C) Pay off the bouncer.
D) Arrive at 8:30 pm.

I was only able to get in during ticketed events like BSD.

And once when I turned 25, the place had basically gone down hill.

it really depends on the bouncers there. I got in with a fake ID when I was 16. but when I was actually 18, they made me tip them because I was wearing "nikes" hated those mother fuckers.

Never been there, although only turned 18 in April.
Don't know much about all the "older" clubs I guess, I'm either at The Bank, Rhino, or Mansion depending on what's happening and who I'm with.
