Youtube has decent quality now with 720p or 1080p so I use that for the hard to find remixes. Mostly torrents but I've bought quite a few albums from artists I really like. If I'm buying, it's a CD not from iTunes.

Google the song name, and add zippyshare or mediafire to the end of the name.

Doesn't anyone use torrents anymore? Or peer to peer networks?

I still do. (uTorrent + isohunt.com pretty much covers me)
I realize newsgroups are supposed to be the way to go now...but I'm comfortable with torrents still. A complete discography only takes a few minutes usually. I can't be bothered to download single songs. At the very minimum, a complete CD.
Still laugh at my sister..she has around 1,000 songs on her iphone. And she bought each and everyone off iTunes!!

Why would you Google for Rapid Share when you can just get them straight off Google?

You can pass parameters into Google searches to search for file extensions and also remove any extensions you don't want. Use the hyphen to remove web page results when searching for a song like so:

"parent directory" 2pac:mp3 -xxx -html -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums

That will search for 2Pac songs if you put that string into Google and you can right click the song, then download it straight from the source.

demonoid.me to ensure proper ripping methods and id3 tags have been utilized. Also good for flac. Anything else, I go on private torrent trackers.

Funny how some people still buy stuff instead of stealing it eh??

I support the artists I like. I buy the songs or albums. Especially if they're not big names. I'm sure 50 Cent has enough cash that he doesn't care much but the non-mainsteam artists actually rely on the revenue from concerts and albums to make a living.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm better than everyone else and I've never downloaded music for free...but I've recently decided to actually purchase the music I enjoy.

Not according to the Supreme Court of Canada. Do some research.

Well its pretty obvious that one would only use these resources to obtain royalty free music.

if bittorrent == illegal, then so does http

It is still illegal but the RCMP has better things to do and will not go after any end users.

Still not quite correct.

While the unauthorized copying - uploading - of complete copyrighted works such as books, movies, or software is illegal under the Act, the situation regarding music files is more complex, due to the Private Copying exemption.

The court further found that both downloading music and putting it in a shared folder available to other people online were legal in Canada. This decision dealt a major blow to attempts by the CRIA to crack down on file

That particular case was appealed with no solid outcome:

The Court of Appeal held that although the original case should be dismissed due to lack of evidence linking the unnamed defendants to the alleged copyright infringements, the question of the legality of peer-to-peer file sharing must be decided in a future case.

So as of now, downloading music in Canada is still not illegal.
The other media (movies, books, software) IS illegal, however that is what the RCMP will not pursue.

In that case, I use https://ssl.what.cd cuz it has _everything_ and is highly moderated, meaning all of the releases are of the highest quality.

:guns: YouTube rips :nut:

Well I don't pirate :) But IF I did, I'd probably use torrents or Frostwire.

+1, TONS out there, find a song title, and google it with blogspot at the end, usually pretty damn successful at finding what you want

youtube rips are very very last case scenario

Interesting. I was under the impression that all of it was illegal. Thanks for the links.
