Punching your mother isn't normal.

Not really a board game but what's that one where you hold the thing in your hands and your team guess' the words on the little screen while you describe it? haha

EDIT: Catch Phrase!

The most cut-throat game out there. Fucking love it.

I've lost friends over Risk.

7 Wonders is pretty fun once you figure out the gameplay.

I play Arkham Horror semi-regularly. We just started Eclipse as well, both are great.

Alhambra is good.
Atlantis Rising and Yggdrasil and both excellent co-op games.

Depends on skill level, but my picks are:

7 Wonders
Discworld: Ankh-Morpork
King of Tokyo
Smash-Up

Smallworld is also good but can be a bit intimidating for complete novices.

Some of our favs, besides Settlers, are:
Carcasonne
Medici (good game that is reliably "short", 45-60mins)
Tigris and Euphrates
Puerto Rico

Dark tower is a pretty sweet game if you can find it, it's from the 80's.

Some of these look great, where do you guys go to buy these board games? Some of these are definitely not mainstream so is there somewhere local or do you get these online?

Takenoko is a fun, family-friendly game. I also enjoy Elder Sign. It is a cooperative game where players work together to complete tasks and defeat the main enemy. I have had some luck with Discovery Hut but normally buy off Amazon. I know SentryBox is a little expensive.

Boardgames where half way through you already know who won or lost are the games where you lose friends over, Monopoly and Risk come to mind.

If you want a wicked fun game where almost everyone is on the verge of winning try Monopoly Deal, every single person who's played this loves it. Its a bit tough to find these days, and don't get the millionaire version, get the original monopoly deal.

QFT.

I won't play it period. I can let people win games against me in damn near anything I play, except Monopoly. I have made my own mother cry playing this game.

Our kids keep asking me to play it, and I refuse and look like an ass each time. I don't know what it is, but this game makes me hyper competitive, and for whatever reason, I just can't let it go.

I don't even want it in my house.

Risk on the other hand is a bullshit game. It is completely tilted to favor the aggressive player. There are times that I will sit back on defense to spring a trap, and then run rampant. Can't do that in Risk. The whole secret in that game is just pull "Leroy Jenkins" the whole time and win.

Hahaha

Settlers is sort of the same way for me. It's fun to play but it almost always ends badly.

I want to try out Twilight Struggle. (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12333/twilight-struggle) Disclaimer: It has nothing to do with Twilight. It's highly rated and only requires two players.

Cards against humanity is a lot of fun, but it REALLY depends on who you play it with.
