Cross Border Shopping via Air

Im heading down to LA next month for vacation and was going to pick up a AV reciever. I'm flying via westjet and going for 1 week. Do I have to let Westjet know prior to going or can I just package it myself and tell them it's fragile?

Anyone done this before?

No need to tell them. Keep in mind if you are bringing a suitcase, the reciever will count as an extra bag. $20 to bring it back.

Also keep in mind that the TFSA likes to randomly open checked luggage at their discretion. A receiver might look pretty suspicious through an xray to the wrong person.

and you will have to declare it when coming back as well. remember your personal allowances when bringing items back with you.
