What do you guys use?

I am just getting my foot in the door in terms of trading and I am looking for a program I can leave open and link my accounts to and track my investments.

I see the E-trade commercials but none of that is offered in Canada. Or do most of you just use your banks (RBC - Direct Invest, etc.)? Part of what drew me to E-trade was the offer of a program for your computer and then the same accessibility via an app on your iPhone. If there is anything like that in Canada?

Open to any and all suggestions.

Questrade and Interactive Brokers have decent software. Not sure about mobile apps, but I'm sure if you check out their website you'd be able to find out.

Is this pretty much just data mining?

For Data Mining, I use Excel using a data feed and some simple VBA programming to capture the data every minute.

I use Google Finance portfolios for watching the day-to-day activity.

I also use an excel spreadsheet for tracking all buy/sell/dividend/etc activity.

Anyone interested in sharing the excel template for tracking. Right now I use Google finance for day to day, but nothing for keeping a track record of sells and dividends.

Don't your brokers do this? Or do you just want the information in a different format?

I am self directed with waterhouse, but I never did check what they had for tracking and organizing... I will look into it. I am more looking for an easy way to track my gain and losses and dividends with a spreadsheet that is not online.
I would appreciate a template to work from as I do not have a whole lot of experience with excel..

thanks,

If anyone wants a good Stock app for their android, "Stocks" by Dato is pretty good for getting up to the minute stock prices.
