I actually liked the lens flare because it added to vintage look to a futuristic movie.

Its like grape flavored apples, makes no sense but is good as hell.

I don't mind lens flare per se, it's lens flare coming off of nothing that bugs me.
And Star Trek was full of lens flare where it absolutely shouldn't be. Like, "I think that asteroid needs some lens flare coming off of it".

*I was surprised, after checking IMDB, to see that Star Trek is the only thing I've ever seen of Abrams'. If everything he makes is like that, deal me out lol.

I agree. It's okay if it's used in moderation and where appropriate, but when it's flaring off nothing it's really distracting. Like in Fringe, they'd be in a tunnel or sewer and there's flare everywhere. :dunno:

I don't mind the flare at all. I think it gives the movie a more organic feel. Otherwise, I feel like the environment is just too clean to be real.
