So I'm looking at a 2010 335xi (with exective package, navi and m package) and I'm trying to figure out what price it would be if I sell it in 2015 (3 yrs from now, with approx 60k kms). I'm trying to figure out my cost of ownership.

Since the 3 series sedan gets a new model for 2012, do you guys think the resale of the E90 model will be horrible?

I look at 2007 335xi's now and they range from 24-35k. Depending on kms, options and condition. This is of course inaccurate because 2007 was the first year of the 335 and therefore should hold value the best.

So my question is, what do you think a 2010 335xi loaded with every package will sell for in 2015 with 60,000km?

Retail sale? I would say high 20s depending on condition and if it's ever been in any accidents. If you're looking at a future trade in value it's going to be somewhere in the low 20s

Very tough to see into the future as cars are evolving so quickly now.

By 2015, it will be considered as 5 or 6 ye old and i would assume all warranty has run out.

My guess would be low 20s. The problem is, there is no shortages of 335s in Calgary. The used market will be if not already flooded with them. So really no guarantee how value will hold.

I think there is a 2011 335xi with 60km with similar spec just (or about to) sold for $52k as new with 4yr warranty intact. Justfood for thought.

That's my worry too, there are tons of used 335s for sale at any given time.

I will have to think more about this. This will be my first expensive car purchase.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay. You can't count on a value.

Don't forget to add a set of rear tires for each season. I had a 335 for 3 years and went through 2 winter sets of rears and a 3 summer sets of rear tires. $900 a set and that add $4500 to the TCO.

That's why leasing is a good option. Let the manufacturer handle the depreciation. If the car isn't worth X amount of dollars you return it.

As the lessee, aren't you basically ONLY paying for the depreciation of the car?

Usually a bit more and the interest on the whole car's value.

But BMW is the only one that will budge on residual and it always has better rate than the others 2. TCO can be quite low on a BMW 3yr lease. Especially a year end model.

IMO if you are worrying about depreciation this much you probably aren't ready to make such a big purchase. Anytime you start looking at cars as assets you are setting yourself up for disappointment. If you can't accept that you are going to lose significant money on your investment expensive cars are not for you.

This. Buy a car to enjoy and use, not to worry about how much it's gonna be worth in a few years.

Or an NSX. Those things have a huge tire appetite.

That's ridiculous. Each set of tires last you what? 10-15000kms? :nut:

That's insane tire usage!!

I mave a 1500 silverado 4x2 V8 with a set of all seasons and winters, and I've had the same tires for 3+ years each, with a tonn of life left in them.
Bikes another story though, but that's different.

Less than that. Maybe 7-10K kms for the rears. Add a track day and it is less.

A tuned 335 and a C63 probably put out close to the same torque. Over 400lbft of it. You can only put 265 wide tires on the rear of either car.

The C63 weighs 4000 lbs. Add it all up with a bit of gas and you have tires that melt when you look at them.

It only takes a dozen or so spirited acceleration sessions to chew through your tires.

Get a 335XI if you are worried about tire wear.

My c63 just eats rear tires . I have it tuned @540hp (I dynoed it) and I can't get more then 5-6000kms on the rears.

Buy it for you. Buy it for now. And make sure you're ok with the payments.
