Finally getting about an hour every odd day or so to pick away my track car(for which track I don't know now).

Car: 1988 Turbo II Fc3s
Engine : 20b peripheral port
Weight target 2000-2200 lbs.
First project is putting the driveline together, then spot stitch weld all the body seams, Cage, bodywork/kit install, then fit the seats and wire it.
This thing will be louder than all hell, but it's going to remain street legal in terms of lighting and what not, and will be occasionally street driven.

Car is just a rolling stock TII shell right now, it's going to the body man in a month or so. The kit is the full genuine Tamon widebody kit, to kill the weight , I have carbon doors and lexan hatch for it. The rear hatch has to be over a 100 lbs just by itself..
The kit:

This is where I wish I had a CNC mill instead of manual hand cranker.

The leftovers from 3 hours of manual machining.

The semi finished result, FC bellhousing mounted to Viper six speed sequential dogbox.
I have to trim the corners down yet and give it all a clean up, but hard part is done.

Next is the engine, as it sits now, I have to get back on the mill and make the manifolds/piping for the individual throttle bodies, and then fit it to the car.

I can already tell this is going to be my favorite build on beyond.

Wow cool build.....never really knew the potential of N/A rotaries until I saw that yellow FD on best motoring.

Good luck! It's going to be a beast.

that transmission setup is pimp, hope that's a nylok nut holding the pivot ball rod end :D

Hmm, well ultimate goal would be 400 at the wheel, but anything over 375 will suffice. The power is in the exhaust and intake tuning. It takes a fair bit of trial and error and dyno time to find the right resonant lengths in addition to the diameters. The 2 rotor version of this engine made 238 rwhp with no real time spent tuning the intake or the exhaust, plus it was built out of sweepings off the shop floor, so I think a fresh 3 rotor with some dyno R&D should be able to make a fair bit more.
It's easy to make pretty big power from a turbo rotary, but the linearity of the n/a motor is far better on the track, and on top of that , less thermally loaded than a turbo motor. I think my n/a 13b car was actually faster around race city than my turbo car, even though on the straights, the turbo car was astoundingly fast.

Yes it is, waiting for the clutch to arrive now, along with a bunch of other stuff..

Nice.

Ever see the guys running carbed 12a SA22Cs at race city?

2300 lbs and 130-140 whp. They have shit loads of fun out there.

This might be a little faster. :)

I've chatted with a few of those guys on the phone but never watched them actually.. The inspiration for this build came from watching RE Amemiya at super GT races in the 3 rotor n/a car, and the RE amemiya FC2000 build video from years ago.

I really liked the way the aero looked, but the Tamon kit takes it to another level.

Looks cool.

If I was ever going to swap a V8, I would do a DCX probably...
Anyway, parts starting to roll in...
This is a fully engineered package, tilton clutch assembly, custom lightweight flywheel, clamp springs specifically for this motor to keep clutch action and thrust on the engine as light as possible. The idea is to make the clutch just right for the motor in terms of holding power and at the same time minimize rotating mass for not only acceleration, but also make the engine quick to rev for the throttle blip system on downshift.

Best build ever! Good to see a 3 rotor build :) So I imagine its a gonna be a 2.0L then right?

In recent years, passion for the rotary and in particular the 2nd Gen FC's has declined. That's part of what makes a build like this so epic. This will truly be a one of a kind build. Lets hope by the time it's done there's a track to run it on!!!

Updates? And also please bring me for a ride in this beast :D

I've wanted a 20b powered fc since i had my 88 gxl.

I am working on the throttles right now.. I have the Tweak it 20b kit, and its really a piece of shit in terms of fitment. The problem is the front rotor from the middle rotor is a different center than the rear to middle, but the tweak it kit is equidistant between all throttle bodies, but the centers of the Tb's doesn't match any of the rotor centers, front or rear.. What this means is that the intake runners have to have offset except the one I chose to center the TB's on. On a p-port, the intake length is ultra critical to torque peak, with offsets, all 3 rotors will actually have a slightly different torque peak.
I am considering tossing the tweak it kit onto ebay at this point , and doing an individual TB drive by wire setup with the motec and DBW4 module.
That or its back to the Jeep TB's I used on my 2 rotor.
