These are TAG's entry level quartz line, so prices are reasonable, running from $1000-$1600.

I'm pretty sure it would be around the $800 mark.

The F1 Series got seriously nice in the last 5 years or so. I'm really feeling the F1 Ceramic.

Just tough to justify spending over 500 on a quartz.

Calgary Jewellery will have 'em. These are available by months end. Some are special order only. I'll update the first post with the model #'s in case you want to inquire.

I never buy watches, what is next after quartz and what are the aspects which make it better? I guess what I want to know is why is hard to justify over $500 on a quartz watch?

Talking purely from a pricepoint perspective, quartz is your entry level battery operated watch. Very accurate. +/- a couple seconds a year.

Next is mechanical/automatic, where time keeping is done mechanically with gears and springs, time regulation controlled by a hairspring and balance wheel. You'll need to either wind it, or it has a rotor on the back where it winds itself as your arm moves around normally. Accuracy is generally +/- 10 seconds a day if regulated properly. Accuracy changes based on level of wind (power reserve), gravitational field, orientation of balance wheel, etc.

Next, is the tourbillon. To offset the effects of gravity, the balance wheel is housed in a cage and rotates as it works so gravity affects it evenly. There's single axis cages, and 2-axis cage to negate the full 3 dimensional effects. Accuracy is, believe it or not, the same, but it looks bling.

So yea, the more expensive watch is, the less accurate it is lol. Mechanical watches are like micro machines, it's pretty cool to see it work and have a mechanical marvel on your wrist. At least, that's what the marketing tells me.

Oh yea, 90% of the mechanical watches there use mass produced movements from ETA (swatch), or other clone manufactures such as Selita, as those patents have long expired.

Yeah. Too much money for quartz. At least, that's how I perceive it. Mechanical watches should be more because of the craftsmanship.

If you just want an F1 for the sake of having a TAG and in Vegas, go to the outlet store. $300-400!

Well the big thing is I liked the look of the all black stealth and figured if it was 800-1000 that would be a good price. But if its nearing the 2K mark might as well just shoot for little nicer.

I just need to do some research soon here. See if I end up with a tag or brietling (prob too much). see what interests me.

I agree. It is little too much for a entry level Quartz. At this price point you might as well spend the extra and get a mechanichal watch. - I know it will be atleast double for a mechanichal one but the price point for these watches are not here or there.

I would say Yes start at CJ. Never bought any thing from Birks so I can't comment on it. My experience with CJ is pretty good.

Birks is in a mall, so their overhead is much higher.

I've had no probs with CJ. Talk to Jeff, the chinese guy. Tell him that I sent you and he'll take care of ya.

When I went during the summer, they had a big sale that could've gotten me the chrono F1 for 400something. At least, that's what the salesman told me.

My flight was on the sale date tho.

Who cares if it quartz, honestly. What's the first thing and basically THE deciding factor of why you would buy one watch over another? It's how it looks. Unless you want to be a watch snob that can only have Autos, I don't see the point in making that a huge factor to buy or not. And if it was a factor, you'd be more curious about what watch had what movement and buy the cheapest thing!

For $1600 bucks, I'd be getting a used Omega speedy pro in a heartbeat over any of these watches listed here!

Went in on Saturday, guy also confirmed the $1900 sale point for All Black Stealth. Told me they ordered 25 of them.

I tried on a tag with the rubber band in the display and certainly wasn't a fan of that feeling (maybe it takes time to get used to?)

Probably just going to spring for a Carrera instead, after being a little hesitant he told me how much he could reduce the price from $4400 of the one. Which seemed pretty good.

Only comment I found odd was he stated that the leather bands from Tag break down very easily and that if I were to use the watch on a regular basis I would have to replace the strap every year or so?

Once you get comfortable with rubber straps, there's no going back. I won't wear anything but rubber straps now.

The problem with leather straps is that if you wear it tight, sweat will discolour it, and it doesn't wear as good as rubber.

The Hublot gummy croc straps are probably the best straps I've ever owned. It's got a rubber base to feel like rubber, with leather (croc) stitched in on the top layer, so it looks like leather, feels like rubber, and never wears out.

Yeah. I used to have leather straps but maintenance is too high and if you wear daily, a year of wear and tear is all it can take.

Back on topic now!!!

i'm looking at the formula 1 chronograph with the ceramic bezel, i'm assuming price point for that one will be close if not the same as the all stealth black watch. Only prob, is paying $1900 for a quartz watch...but i really really like the look of the new Formula 1's!!!

Here's a link with more on model info and various pics of the other Formula 1 watches.

Jeesh, these F1's are getting expensive. I can remember paying $280 for the original F1's with the resin case/strap and $350 for the metal case versions brand new from authorized dealers.

sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I had yet to purchase a watch from there and wanted to wait until it was complete.

They offered me quite a bit more than the 10% discounts you were getting. I'm not sure if it depends on who you speak to there?

You weren't taken advantage of. Retail is retail and MSRP is exactly that. If you go into a store and know someone or have pull (or they just want the sale) then they'll be willing to work with you based on their margins. The truth is, if you went into cold without any connectos I would suggest that 10% off listed price is actually a pretty good deal for a quality timepiece.
