Hey all,

I recently bought a parka and the faux fur hood lining is bothering me and giving me an allergic reaction. I am looking to replace it with real fur (either coyote, red fox, whatever works) and I was wondering if some hunters out here on Beyond can help me source out where I can get pieces locally?

I did my research and most of the tanneries/fur stores are up in Edmonton.

Maybe some of you have fur pieces (or scraps) that you'd like to sell at a reasonable price or provide to me for free?

I need a long piece to go around the brim so it can't be rabbit and small animals.

Please don't turn this into an ethics thread.

Hopefully, someone can help!

EDIT: I found online sources:

There's also a local place that does the replacement with whatever fur they have for $175 (depending on what kind I get):

Are there any cheaper sources?

I saw a dead coyote on the side of the road, check Hwy #1, 13km due west. You'd be repurposing the animal, very green and ethical.

Pretty sure that's illegal and not really looking to do some gutting. :)

Go shoot a coyote and skin it. They are varmint, no restrictions against shooting them. Most people just shoot them and leave them in the bushes.

You might try:

http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-hobbies-crafts-Custom-Handmade-Moccassins-W0QQAdIdZ347904983

They make moccasins with fur trim, it would be easy for them make trim for a hood. You should know which fur wears well, as not all fur is the same of course. Worth a call.

If you had caught me back at the end of October, I could have hooked you up with grizzly pelt.

What are you willing to pay? I'll shoot and skin one for you, but you have to bring it in to get tanned and shit.

Hmm... Not sure how or even where to get it tanned so I'll have to pass. I'll continue looking for local sources.

Thanks though :)
