$3.99 !! Wow lol

He says it's nothing special; Red Lager is similar to Alexander Keith's Red. But still would recommend it. I guess don't expect too much from it?

The idea is interesting, that's for sure. Drop yeast in for ~10 days, fridge, drink.

A little more expensive in Calgary, but still not too bad.

I bought that on a whim; just because I procrastinated way too long before trying my hand at home brewing. There are a fair bit better kits that I'd suggest way before that Mr. Beer. Sure you can brew beer in 10 days, but thats the bare minimum. My best batch was closer to three weeks, and thats going above & beyond what you they say you should do.

Also; their beers are very low in alcohol. As in 3-4%. In order to do 5-6% I had to go to a wine supply store and buy some brewers sugar to aid in the fermentation process. Their kits are pretty basic, any higher end beers typically require extra ingredients or beer making kits (that they sell) that aren't available in stores. All they have in stores are the very generic Red, Blonde, & Golden ales.... anything higher end as in a German Pilsner you'll have to buy online.

I bought mine over in Crossiron Mills (in Bass Pro shops), only to spend the next hour or so walking around the mall looking like "That guy". (wow thats a big box; leave alone one that says MR. BEER on every possible side). I think I paid about $80 for the kit there.

Yeah just google home brewing kits, or visit a few wine making stores. Most people that work in such stores really know what they're talking about and can offer a ton of very insightful advice.

Some kits are a fair bit more money but the brewing options are almost endless. Its hard to have good brews with Mr. Beer unless you follow the guidance of a guy who really knows WTF to do. I've yet to make a batch Im totally impressed with, but I've only done it about 5 times now. I find sanitation to be of utmost importance. Any lack of it (in any possible regard) will ruin the whole batch.
So far I've found the red to be the best among the locally available variety. Its best to read up on what to do VS. what NOT to do before buying or attempting anything.

Here are a few links that might help you. All these guys are local.

Neat idea, but at the same time for around $6 you can get a 6 pack of ratty ass prison style beer already made for you, so why bother making your own?

Anybody know if you can get this anywhere else? There is no Co-Op in Lethbridge....

You can buy it online. Like I said; call various wine making & outdoor stores as they may have it

Sputnik; Even the worst shit I made was better then any mountain crest/"prison style" beer. Besides its cool being able to customize the brew to your liking.

It's cool having friends over and enjoying your stuff as much as the Keith's or whatever, but alas like I said it's a bit of a challenge doing that with these Mr. Beer kits.
