so you probably remember my thread about getting a new (to me) car and I had a WRX and a BMW in there.

now i'm also considering Mercedes Kompressor as well as Audi sedans and the like.

with that being said what are kompressors like for quality/comfort/common problems etc?

found something like this

Kompressor means the engine is supercharged and is not the car model.

"kompressor" is German for "supercharger".

So what b-spot said

Correct.

They are just referring to the fact that the Supercharger compresses the air.

There was a C32 AMG Sports Coupe and a C30 CDI AMG Sports Coupe (the only AMG diesel) that was pretty badass. Was notching some good Nurburgring times back in the day.

If you got your tattoo, then yes a kompressor is for you,
if you didn't get your tattoo, then no a kompressor is not for you

The W203 C Class was built during the Mercedes "improving quality" era. They're not bad, but they are getting old, and starting to fall apart. Definately not as robust or reliable as today's MB's or the older MB's.

The 230 Kompressor had the 2.3L supercharged engine. The engine was a tank, super reliable in the old C class, but with the added supercharger brought tons of problems. I had an SLK 230 of that era with that engine, and it suffered from routine issues. Misfiring and not starting after a car wash, intercooler failure, random electronics crap with engine and car.

There was a C320 with a NA V6 (I had the SLK320) and it was bulletproof. A beyonder bought the car from Lone Star after I traded it in, and from my recollection, had absolutely no problems with the car for a long time. Then the SLK32 came along, and both kenny and I had issues with, once again, the supercharger setup. I had small interior issues with my car, covered under warranty.

Reason why I bring up the SLK is because build quality was identical between the C and SLK of that era.

With that being said, prepare to shell out $ to fix small issues, which will crop up. You're not going to get bulletproof MB reliability with these cars. On the bright side, this was also the Chrysler era, and a lot of parts are available from Chrysler dealers for less money.

Thanks for your input and info!

Why is it all the cars I like get bad reviews haha. I want something nicer/bigger than say a civic but reliable like Honda/Toyota. Damn it.

Ha speak of the devil, worked late tonight and my crappy Subaru didn't want to start tonight. First world problem

And the comment about the tattoo, I'm in Australia now and no one really gives a shit what anyon else drives here. Plus there arent manyriced out cars here either which is nice

As long as we're throwing out suggestions, I say consider a W202 C-Class. I had one for a good five or six years and it treated me so very well. The car has a classic look and is nicely finished throughout. In a few years, I may pick up a C36 or C43 (the latter only if the transmission issue was handled by the previous owner) as a second car.

I think this car is perfect for anyone that wants to express WHAT THEY GOT.

Also, if you listen hard enough, the whine of the s/c during acceleration actually whistles "wwwwwwwhatigotttttt".

So, IMO, this car is the perfect choice for you!
