Headgasket maybe for that year. I had a 1994 at one time and the headgasket was a very expensive repair...

Headgasket for sure, check to see if the recall was done, I think it was recalled on the 3.0 and that fixed it. Not very good on gas in 2wd and terrible in 4wd.

I've got a 95 with the 22RE/5spd. The aforementioned rust issues are a real problem with these, but other than that they're great little rigs. Make sure the roll-down back window works and works well, as the hatch is a complicated unit and is a bit of a pain to work on.
If you get the truck, I've got a spare set of factory alloys in decent shape you could have for cheap. I probably won't keep the truck until next winter and the rims are just taking up space.

Damn, would have loved to talk 4runners. I miss mine, a lot.

I've got a '92 22re.. Its damn slow and not easy on gas.. But I enjoy driving it.. ha. I probably wouldnt in the city, but cruising around the country side is a good time.
