View Full Version : Interest in a "beyond" poker tourney

I'm thinking of having a "beyond" tourney, but would like to know how many would actually be interested in coming. There's a half a dozen or so beyonders who've come to my games...but this would be to encourage a few more.

So who's up? And I mean as in "actually showing up". None of this "Oooh I'd be in if only...." It would be a Friday or Saturday night. Not a large buy-in....$40 maybe? I'd make it a "bounty" game, say $10, and it would be optional. Could also have a .25/.50 (or a .05/.10 micro game) cash table going at the same time or when enough get knocked out of the tourney. Minimum $20 buy-in.....Max: $100, can reload at any time.

This would be in the next month or so.

Thinking of adding a few bonuses;
Deepstack; Starting stack of $T10,000
Bonus $T1,000 for arriving and signing up 15 minutes before cards fly
ADDITIONAL $T2,000 bonus for pre-paying for your seat (paypal, EMT)
I'd be interested in joining if there's a noob friendly table (otherwise I may as well just put down the money and go straight for the food  ) Your poker nights always look pretty fun.

Yes...I forgot to add that. It would be a "noob friendly" game. Very laid back. But at the same time you'd learn proper etiquette, what a mis-deal is, string bet, rules etc.
Not to make anyone feel dumb, but just to learn.
ie: "you can't do that..you have to first do this" kinda thing.

Biggest example of improper betting is learned from TV. The whole.... "I'll call that $50 and raise you another $50" is called a "string bet" and is not allowed. Don't know why TV and movies always use that line in poker.

So your idea is JUST beyond.. Not PokerKnights right?

Well yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Sometimes it's hard for new ones to come when there's 25 other people all high fivin' each other and "hey Joe, how's the family..".

But I would open it up to more if only 8 players express interest/sign up. If 20 beyonders express interest, then likely we'd get a comfortable two tables. (always get a few "no shows")

I still have my Poker Knights tournies, (the big summer BBQ one) but just thought this might encourage a few new ones who want to learn the game and then show up at my larger ones.

You n me both...preferably me more than you ;)

For those that are a little apprehensive about walking into someone's private home for a poker game, a few facts about the "Canyon Meadows Casino";
Separate, ground level entry through the garage. So you're not tromping through someones private living room, down into their basement. The entire basement is the poker room. Snack room, darts, pool table, restroom, fridge and even smoking in the heated garage.

Sounds like fun. What time would this start?

Dave you got a sick man cave happening. So cool.

I'd say get all the OG's out and let's have a cash game. Some 1-2NL and try to hit up rage2/89coupe/Inrich for some weekend money and bragging rights lol

I would definitely be in. I suck at poker but I do enjoy playing.

Would we be able to bring a friend or something as well?

I'm with you man. Not very good at poker, so hopefully a lot of other noobs come along!
My girlfriend will be coming along as well.

Any tentative date on this?

Poker's such a tough game, will you host a Monopoly cash game Dave??? Like we can scale down the amounts (Monopoly 500 = $50 cash, etc.. etc...)

I'd be in for Monopoly

If everyone is up for a higher buy-in, that would be fine. But I find that $40 plus your bounty is a decent amount that most can handle. $50 for a night of fun is an easy amount. Especially when this might cater to a lot of noobs. Not much fun with a $100 buy-in and you bust out 10 minutes into the game.
If you want to play higher stakes, sit in on the cash game..buy-in for $100. :dunno:

Usual tournies start at 7:00 and go til around midnight.
Yeah a "baller night" could be done too! lol.

Would we be able to bring a friend or something as well? Sure. You're totally responsible for any friends you bring though. They piss in closet, throw up on the floor...you get to clean it up! :D Start any fights and I'm kickin YOUR ass!

Dunno yet. March 24th is my anniversary, so that weekend's out. But within the next couple to few weeks..?

Not trying to be a dick here, but I think the idea is to have a *Beyond* tourney. Not a Beyond, family, friends, and other people that have nothing to do with Beyond tourney.

Of course, that's just my thought. It's Dave's call.

Fair enough. My bro is on beyond though.. haha. I wont ask any friends unless Dave needs to fill up spots. :burnout:

Get a 1/2 Game or $100 buyin and I'm in for sure! :)

Ahh Fuck it, I'm down even if its $40, but would much prefer a $100 or $200 game with the Beyond ballers.

I am down with this 1/2 NL holdem or dealers choice min. $200? :D :D

From the sounds of it you will probably clean up but I do play a ton of poker as well.

Wonder if we could get enough guys together to organize a buy-in tournament where the proceeds would buy a WSOP entry. I think it would be fairly cool to see a beyond at the WSOP main event.

Only problem with this is that we would need at least 100 guys to make it reasonable.

Either way would be cool to see a guy at that event with a beyond hat or tshirt on during the tournament.

I was trying to convince my wife to let me enter as I really don't like online poker as much as in person.

100 guys with a $100 buy-in and winner takes all? Good luck with that! And getting on TV with over 7,000 entrants is a long shot!

That being said....are you coming to the "beyond" tourney at my place?? C'mon....ya know ya waaaaana! :D
