is the juicy fruit included? i sure hope so, i love that shit

but seriously, do $60, it's better than nothing, i bet you could get some better night mode quality if you put some IR leds in your grille

yes, the video is dark.
However, the quality at that light level is incredible at that price point-most 'cheap' cameras fall apart at that kind of lighting, so I'm impressed by that video (and you can increase the brightness with a media player- you can't increase the quality though, obviously).

Interested in a daytime video and whether you can get the night to work better. Even if you can't though for $60 that's pretty great. If you do hardwire it in could you take pics of how you do it?

Pretty sure he just plugged it into the cigarette lighter (for now).

What's with all these people in the car-cam threads asking how to wire it in? Every vehicle is different, you can't just say "use the red wire and crimp it"

That's what I did with my cheap camera set-up (too bad it was so cheap it stopped working after 3 months, lol). I took the mount apart, and screwed it into the back of the rearview mirror.

at the same time, i don't get how they can just say plug it in to the cig lighter, some cars it's constant power, some cars it's ignition power... so if it's constant, how does the cam know when the car is turned on or off?

Huh. On our Dodge Journey we have 2, 1 constant power and 1 ignition, but I thought that was just because it was a minivan.

Not just older Vehicles, in my 2012 mustang it only has 2 always hot 12v recepticles with no easy way to change them.

but it was a breeze to tap into the fuse box and get a switched 12v source and put a new recepticle in up under the dash.

On my Jeep there is a fuse that can go in two different positions that shares a common middle pin, that in position 1-2 is constant and in pin 2-3 is switched. Something worth looking for in your fuse box.

Nice, I ordered mine a few days after you Cos. So hopefully mine will be turning up shortly here as well. That is crazy fast shipping time.

For $60 bucks looks like it was money well spent.

I have a feeling you don't want the IR LED's on or you would just get a huge glaring reflection of the IR's from your windshield... curious to see if they work as intended.

They "work" but you will never need them because your car has headlights which put out much more light, IR and visible, than those little LEDs will anyway.

The idea for IR LEDs on camras comes from those security camras for houses, it's so that they can still film without using visible light that people would notice. Military night vision goggles have a similar thing. There is zero reason to have it on a car dashcam unless you like driving around in pitch black without headlights.

As for the camera, im not really sure how much better you can get and this evidence is better than no evidence if I need it. Mainly I just want it for cool bombing around videos. Haha

I'm still not seeing how the blue Audi even remotely came close to smoking your truck.

It's when the Audi is turning right in this video he gets uber close to the van in front of him and you can see him brake check a little to keep from clipping the corner of the van. It doesn't nearly hit his truck.

Built-in 1800mah lithium battery, record video continuous for 4 hours.
Does this mean that you could just charge the camera every night and have it work on battery for 4 hours?

Of course, hard-wiring it would be better...

Cos what were your final settings? Did you change much?

something like this?

Video time: 5MIN
Motion Detect: ON
Light Freq: 50HZ (stock)
Screen Set: 1 MIN
Auto Off: 5MIN (unit will shut down 5min after power cut?)

mine is the same except the motion detect, i think that's for when it does not have power it'll motion detect record, it would be recording all night in that case for me because i park on the street.

Is yours wired to your car's accessory circuit, or always on? In the former case, I'd assume it would motion detect record with the battery?

Hmm...might need to see some more video, but this one looks almost as good as the BlackVue without the price.

I've got a slightly different model than this one but from the same manufacturer. The videos are pretty large and mine in 1080 with sound its around 105mb/min if i step it down to 720 w/ sound its around 70mb/min.

I also went with class 10cards as I heard that the slower cards may affect your FPS and when I was in walmart all their class 10 cards where on sale for the same price as the lower ones so I picked up a couple 16gb which was the biggest they had.

Thats the one I have although I ordered it from a different seller for cheaper. It was about 65$ shipped in the end.

I bought it over a year ago before they became popular and really I was not expecting much from it but it blew away my expectations.

It is pretty small (smaller than any radar detector) but the mount it comes with is pretty big and bulky.

In comparison to the OPs camera I feel mine has a slightly better picture and mine handles low light a bit better. (although it does NOT have IR leds it uses 2 super bright white leds that I've never turned on)

I went with this one over the OPs just because you can close the screen so its not always shining. As well with the screen closed 90% of people just think its a radar detector.

In regards to the 1080 v 720. there is not alot of difference and really takes playing it back on a big TV to notice any difference. As well you get less FPS in 1080. The lens plays more of a factor in quality than the resolution ever will.

I just got about 1 hour of footage with about 6.5GB. I don't think I'll need a 32GB one. Consider I'm sure 90% of the time it's left there looping. I'll check again when this 16GB quits.

Mine just arrived about an hour ago!

I'll see what I get in terms of video quality.

So the mount getting in the video is a little annoying, but unavoidable I suppose.

It does what I want it to, and the quality is about as good as I expected for $60. Two days worth of commuting used about 8GB. Now I just need to get it hardwired to my accessory.

Wonder how many 'spotted' threads will have dashcam video attached now?

Yeah I flipped the mount around this way, fits up behind my mirror perfectly that way. I'm thinking about covering the LEDs withs omething to make it a bit more discrete, you can't really see it from outside the car but those reflect like crazy.

Anyone tried the motion detection (parking mode) to see if it works with the battery? I haven't gotten the cam hardwired yet, but when I do, it'll be to the accessory most likely. Be nice if the (supposed) "4 hour" battery could run the motion.

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet myself.

It does have that feature? I was hesitating on this one because others such as the Blackvue have that. I didn't see it listed in the specs. Good to know.
