In the ‘War of the Worlds’ the Martians used them to incinerate pesky humans more than a century ago.

The Pentagon plans are more modest: crowd control of pesky humans.

Still, after more than a century, the ‘heat ray’ has made the leap from fiction to reality with the U.S. military demonstrating the so-called ‘goodbye effect’ of directing electromagnetic waves at people.

What do you think?

I'm pretty sure this has been around for decades.

Like when they had rashes of those millionaires (back when millions were actually a lot of money) who would spontaneously combust on their lawns.

Conspiracy theorists always suspected a directed energy weapon of some sort, but as always - at the time there was no way to prove it.

the heat thing works but why not just burn a hole through something instead?

You can probably google it yourself "Spontaneous combustion".

There was a whole period where it seemed that every two or three weeks some "important" person was just burning up. Religious people were afraid it was the rapture.

I'm getting a little leery of googling things myself nowadays, so go ahead and search on it.

It would be interesting to see the system that's needed in each truck.

Hmm.. So how long until we see hand held Chinese knock offs? One of these would look great next to my cigarette lighter stun gun.
