"A British MP says Canada got a bad deal on the second-hand submarines it bought from the U.K. in 1998 and should consider asking for a refund."

"In their 13 years of Canadian service, the subs have spent less than three years at sea and have been plagued by dents, rust, fires and leaks."

Rust? Dangnabit, what have you Brits been doing with all the nickel we have been sending you.

I like this Brit MP, he wants Canada to ask for a refund - 14 years later.

wow, that sucks for us, however, I think that my favourite part of the article is this

"None of the subs is capable of firing a Canadian torpedo."

So we bought subs, that aren't even capable of performing in duty? Or does the UK want us to purchase torpedos from them?

I'm still not understanding how this is the british fault... Canada buys them, has them refitted under CF (now RCN) supervision in the UK, our QA/QC staff apparently didn't bother doing their jobs... And we should now talk to the UK about a refund? Sorry but WTF? And why haven't those QA/QC people been sent out to the canadian public for slaughter?

I'm sure the fliberals will find a way to blame the Conservatives for the purchase and aquisition of these derelicts.

maybe we should buy some old fighter jets from the british instead of the f-35's too!

Maybe if we buy those C-27J's from the UK instead of the USA Alenia Aermacchi won't be such a dipstick about it...

http://www.defensenews.com/article/20120227/DEFREG02/302270007/Alenia-Warns-U-S-Over-C-27J-Sales

This is the procurement to replace the buffalo which will pass their service life in 2015... Apparently we were about to pick them up for a smokin deal...

C27J's are an updated version of the Super Hercules...

Haha, we basically look like the fortress mountain of the navy world.

I saw these subs when I was on the east coast a few years ago it was an extremely sad sight.

Gah should have just bought nuclear subs! However, it would be a hard sell to Canadian citizens! But they can actually perform their duty in the artic and stay submerged long enough to clear the ice pact. Damn liberals buying these shit heaps.

Are you sure you saw the british subs on the east coast and not just the four mothballed ones that are tied up under the bridge to Dartmouth. I lived in Halifax until 2006 and only ever saw one of the new subs and it was out of the water on the pier.
The four under the bridge are the ones that are supposed to be replaced by the "newer" british ones.

You are probably right, I only passed by once, laughed pretty hard none the less.

I doubt they were just sitting around. We all know what it's been like to be thrown an overwhelming task by management, without sufficient support.

The subs were probably never recommissionable no matter what was done.

If any heads need to roll, it's those who actually brokered this deal.

I would rather have a bunch of new jets instead of defunk subs that the rest of the world laughs at us for buying.

How about:

Schools
Roads
Health care

All three are provincial responsibilities. Has nothing to do with the federal government. And its silly to think its one or the other.
