I like to follow American politics. You can blame the likes of The Daily Show for that, but I find the process and the content so much more ludicrous and entertaining than Canadian politics.

This has been baffling me for awhile now, and I'm hoping it's just because I'm failing to see it from another angle. Because otherwise, it's incredibly hypocritical.

The Republican stance on taxes, from what I've figure out, has been that taxes should be lower and that raising taxes is socialist and anti-American. Correct? I'm aware that it isn't, but from a lot of the rhetoric I've been hearing, that's the general GOP perspective

So, when they criticize Mitt Romney for only being subject to an effect tax rate of 14% (something about how is income is considered capital gains and not work income or something, I think); isn't that what Republicans and conservatives want? By definition, shouldn't they be looking up to Romney and saying shit like "I'd be more like Romney if I didn't have to pay such high taxes!", etc?

The problem is Romney doesn't have a job. Even when he did, he made almost none of his annual income through that salary. His family is loaded and most of the cash he makes are through investment income (capital gains, ect). Americans want a working man, not a Mormon who's never really had to work a day in his life. My understanding anyway.

If he wins the primaries, Obama is gonna DESTROY him in the election. Even with Ron Paul running, I don't think they have anyone who can take on Obama and win.

Romney has a better chance against Obama than Santorum. Santorum might win the nomination, but is far too conservative to stand a chance in a general election.

Oh yeah Santorum has no chance, which is a good thing. But while Santorum wont get many Democrat or undecided votes, Romney will likely not get many hardcore Republican votes.

Do you think the American public will be able to get over the Mormon thing? I don't think it's a reason to not vote for him, but lots of people seem to be distrustful because he's a different stream of Christian.

A lot of Americans still think Obama is a Muslim and isn't American born. Not sure how they will feel about Mormons.

I still think it's retarded how religion is such a big factor on choosing a leader.

The funny thing I've noticed about Santorum isn't that he's too conservative, but that he actually says what conservatives believe, and therefore too 'out there'.

The sense I get from conservatives is that their belief system is so extreme that they don't like to actually hear it said out loud for fear of sounding insensitive.

It's sort of like the guy that says he isn't racist, but doesn't like to be called out when he crosses to the other side of the street when a black guy is coming from the other direction.

Meh, it doesn't matter because neither of them are going to win the presidency, Obama's got it locked up.

That being said, my bet is a Santorum-Gingrich alliance/ticket to squeeze out Romney.

The republicans don't like the guy at all, and they'll do everything to make sure he isn't on the ballot in November.

The more I understand democracy, the more I think it doesn't work.

Politicians now works on a 4 year term. They only have their sight set for 4 yrs. The way that US election goes, it's actually every 2 years. Nothing ever gets done.

This made all the politicians too short sighted and run the country in the ground.

I kinda like ours better. Once you get majority, you get the key for 5 years. Less disruption from political tricks and stall tactics.

I've said it from the start.

The ONLY guy that stood a chance against Obama was Ron Paul.

Obama will RAPE anyone else.

Conservatives are getting VERY right wing in the US, almost militantly so. Racist, hate filled, IDIOTS.

Might is right, and all that nonsense.

It's crazy. And disturbing.

Santorum is what is disturbing. Hell bent on running the US via the Bible. Shits nuts. Says a fetus from rape is a "gift".

It's weird because the two-party system isn't very balanced. The conservatives are VEEERRRRY right, and the liberals are very left-central so now the system balances out to be pretty conservative overall.

On a side note, has anyone watched Game Change? It's a movie about Palin's sudden climb to the 2nd spot of the GOP and how she was unprepared for it.

Obama's got this in the bag, easily.
He got it before this "47%" bullshit, and when this happens so close to election time, Romney's done.

Plus Romney is such a flip-flopper.

Kerry's laughing right now.

love how every four years people get worked up and pretend they have a choice about the direction of their country.

Are you kidding me? He founded Bain Capital. You think he pulled 8 hour days working in private equity? He's worked harder than you ever will in your life.

I think you are kidding yourself my friend. His entire life was laid out for him on a platinum coated platter the day he was born.

And Bain Capital? Do you know what the fuck that company is? He worked harder than anyone at raping and pillaging and exploiting the fucked up de-regulated financial system. OH wait, he even helped create that system. unfair? naww its the American Dream bro

HMMMMM

Romney is a piece of shit. His smile makes me want to knock his teeth out.

All that being said, it doesn't really matter who the president is but I know if Romney is elected (which he wont be), shit would get even worse.

And all of THAT being said, zombie apocalypse is coming anyway, not to worry.

Until he's in a private fundraising function in Boca Raton with a bunch of rich white folk. The he REALLY tells them what they want to hear!

Romney is low charisma and is going to be painted as class warfarish with that latest blurb.

Which means the people on foodstamps and the growing middle class poor are not going to vote for him. Which is an ever growing majority.

Uphill battle for sure.

I love how his team immediately went to work to dig up dirt on Obama, and found something dating back to 1998.
