View Full Version : Office Chair Recommendations/Stores in Calgary?

I've had lower back problems for quite some time now.
I'm in the process of strengthening the lower muscles but think a new chair might help a lot as well since I am sitting programming/studying for maybe 8-10 hours a day.

Just wondering if there are any good stores in Calgary that have a good selection of chairs?

I've been to Staples, most of their stuff isn't comfortable at all in my opinion, or maybe it just needs to be broken in. Might try Costco next. Hoping there are stores out there that carry chairs of high quality as my lower back pain is getting out of control.

Feel free to make suggestions on chairs that you have or have seen around as well.

Criteria:
-Price range (under $1000)
-prefer leather
-full back rest (support head, upper back, neck, etc.)
-lower back support (of course)

Thanks in advance!

We have a few Recaro chairs in our department and they are pretty damn nice on the back.

I think they are in the 2-3k range. we have a few of them in our control center and a different type of chair that's softer and cloth.

For a chair?! Wow.

I've found the mesh ergonomic chairs are best. For the OP, maybe call a chiropractor to see where they sell ergo chairs locally. I'm not sure but I'm willing to bet there are shops that will sit you down (sorry) and measure you to a proper chair that suits your needs.

I've bought most of my stuff from Source Office Furniture. They've got a pretty broad selection of chairs. I just sat in a bunch until I found one that was right. The prices seemed pretty good compared to a few other stores I had visited.

I would stop in at RGO office products and give the Stealcase Leap chair a test drive. We have a very strong ergonomic program at work ant the Leap is our go to chair.

I've got lower back problems (had a lumbar fusion last year) and have always had challenges with office chairs. It seems like the less expensive ones wobble and generally don't feel well made.

I've got a Steelcase Leap chair that is 5 years old. It's great, but they are expensive and will over your price range..

I needed something for downstairs and bought this from Calgary at Source Office Furniture:

http://www.source.ca/product/1601/iForm-Executive-Medium-Back

I find it very comfortable on my lower back, as the lumbar support can be raised or lowered.

It's not leather, but more of a mesh material. They also have various colors.

You can get a Leap for $1200 or a bit under new.

Treat it like you're buying a car. Get your ass in the seat and play with the settings. Go to one of the major Office furniture shops in town like McCrums, RGO or COI and test drive all there Ergo chairs. Tell them your budget and go from there.

I've been in the Office Furniture world now for over 19 years with a background in Ergonomics and the top two Ergo chairs in my opinion are the

Stealcase Leap

Herman Miller Aeron

On page 47 of the PDF flyer, you'll find the quality chair Pacman uses in his downstairs and a couple more on sale:

*Kijiji had a Steelcase Leap chair and desk listed last night for $900 with an electronically adjustable desk. Nice deal considering the total package value, maybe lowball the guy and deal from there?

*darthVWader beat me to it. i thought i was the lone used chair porn guy on beyond. And yes, a desk chair is actually more important than a vehicle seat... which do you use more? Buy the right chair once in a lifetime, buy the wrong chair yearly and never find comfort.

When I worked at Staples we had an $800 chair and I always thought "Who the fuck would pay $800 for a chair?".

I continued to think that until about 30 seconds ago.

I've been using the same $120 Staples chair for almost 10 years now. I was going to go replace it with the closest thing I could find. Now I've got it in my head that I'm going to be a hunchback in 20 years if I don't spend $2,000.

A thought, test drive a few chairs in Calgary, order from the USA with drop shipping in Montana. Might find better deals than Amazon, I only looked for a minute.

There is eBay as well:

I recently had a poor experience with Source, so went with Stor (which is down the road) and they sell the exact same products for lower prices.

I would recommend going there if you are looking for a good comfortable ergonomic leather chair.
