Wow... That's awesome. I would love to get involved with something like that... if only I had the time. Don't think the patients would be too happy about riding in a broken Accord though. :D

You would be surprised. I observed a case today, a lady who immigrated to Canada several years back and has no family here. She has cancer and is having fluid removed from her abdomen as a theraputic treatment for her comfort-she took the bus to and from the appointment and was going to do the same when her chemo started.

I cannot imagine having chemo and taking the bus home. Its insane.

Where do I sign up. I'd do something like that in a heart beat.
Great video:thumbsup:

Meh - my grandfather had testicular cancer. He took the bus to the hospital, they chopped off his testicles, and 3-4days later he took the bus back home. This generation is weak.

Anyone can volunteer to be a driver:

http://www.cancer.ca/Alberta-NWT/About%20us/Our%20locations/AB-Calgary%20and%20area/AB-Volunteer.aspx?sc_lang=EN

and they are currently looking:
Drivers

When: Weekdays during daytime hours. This position requires a flexible schedule.

Where: Various locations

Requirements: Volunteer drivers are needed to safely transport patients receiving active cancer treatment to their appointments. Volunteers are required to use their own vehicle. Please note that we also need volunteers to drive into Calgary from Okotoks, High River, Bragg Creek, Airdrie and Cochrane.

Yep, there is an ongoing need for drivers for this kind of program. My father did this for years as he lost a loved one to cancer back in the sixties.

EDIT: He drove a beat-to-shit camry, but it was the LE version!

Cool program.

However (I hate to be a cynic) I fear that if this gets too much publicity that they will be buried in red tape and legal liability.

I can just see the government forcing them to all have chauffeur/taxi licenses as well as business car insurance.

Hopefully not.

If it's a volunteer activity then insurance isn't an issue. I've got a couple of different clients that do this stuff.

Damn it... Those hours and HS do not mix. This seems more fun and enjoyable than where I currently volunteer though. I think I'm gonna do this in the summer.

My grandpa had his own car to drive to the hospital for his colon cancer. Your grandpa must have been poor. What a loser.
