There was an article in the Post the other day, that said that the European Space Agency claims that NASA has adjusted the pictures that were shown the public. The ESA claims that the pictures were given red tints in various places to show the public that there is no life on Mars, and so it holds the given name of the "red planet" The ESA believes that there are hints of green in the pictures that the rover sends back which would dipict life of some sort on Mars. Now the ESA is sending up a rover of their own within the next couple of months.

Doesn't really have anything to do with this but it was an interesting read.

Probably just gaps in the transmission. (Intentionally placed so it looks like they're on mars when they're really somewhere out in the Nevada desert, maybe by Phrump?) lol

I think it's because the picture you see isn't what the actual rover sees, but rather composites of it. For instance, something like this:

http://amazing-space.stsci.edu/resources/fastfacts/graphics/eagle.jpg

isn't really one image as you and I see it, but actually made up of several (sometimes even hundreds) of bits and pieces of the actual image pieced together like a puzzle to give you the entire picture. The parts that are left out are probably unimportant parts in respect to the entire image, or just didn't turn out and were left out.

Atleast that's what my assumptions are in respect to the Mars images.
