So was noticing in the An eagle, a cat, and a fox just chillin' (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/351672/an-eagle-a-cat-and-a-fox-just-chillin/) thread, some mention of oddball pet names, namely Suitcase, Spaghetti and Ruffles. Ruffles I can understand, but the other two are rather odd - for the most part, people do give cutesy names to their pets, see it every day in our shop as people bring their dogs and cats in for baths/grooming.

Looking through our records, I would say that probably 95% of the pet owners that shop in our store have contrived/cutesy names for their pets - some of the best include Rhubarb and Cujo (a small Springer Spaniel who is so nice). Us, we have two male cats with relatively normal human names (Larry and Daryl) and a guinea pig named Spud, Spud has a contrived name because he looks like a huge baked potato. Even the varying hare who regularly visits our backyard has a name - Jim.

In closing, what would be the most amusing/strange name someone's heard of for a pet - Suitcase would rate right up there for me.

We had a cat and we joked around calling it Chicken. We eventually kept calling it chicken so we ended up keeping the name.. hahaha!

I had a chihuahua before and named it Tequila and my current dog right now is named Udon(japanese noodle).

I always call my daughters chihuahua "Lefty" I figure if you kicked him hard enough he'd make a great left slipper.

My cats name is Quito, which is short for mosquito. He had & has the weirdest meow ever. Kind of sounds like a mosquito buzzing in your ear.

I really like suitcase haha, it caught me off guard.

I named my dog Bishop after the chess piece. It's worked really well.

I hate common names like Bear, Bud, Oreo etc. I love distinct names.

My favorite so far is Radar (big ears papilion)

I had a cat named 6 Pack. The first day I got him, he drank some beer. Meanest cat ever, he attacked everyone's feet, you needed to wear shoes indoors.

We used to have strays living under the garage next door that would come in to our house from time to time. My sister (who was fairly young back then) called the female headybones.....no idea why. She called the male shakeybones, which made a bit more sense because he was scared of everything. My brother had a dumbass of a cat follow him home from work 3 nights in a row, from the 3rd night on he never left so we took him in, he ended up naming it Paucha. My 3 year old neice just named her cat Starlight.

Have a cat named Bella, flipping through the TV channels one day and seen some dancing ballerinas. I then combined Bella and Weiner to give my cat the new and improved name, Bella Weina Cat.

Her full name is now Bella J Weina Cat.

Girlfriend has a cat named Bandit, not sure why but one day I called him Mr. Yuke, shortly after I added a vich to that and he is now know as Mr. Yuklevich

Usually, at least in my experience the pets names start out pretty normal, it's the nick names that get a little strange.

My first two dogs have fairly common names; Oreo and bailey, but my third dog's name is lexi and I call her monkey because when she was little all she wanted to do was climb up on your shoulder and sit there or climb up the couch and sleep on the top of it by your head, or on your shoulder against the couch. She still hangs over your shoulder on her own from time to time.

My not so bright dog is named Hank, for some reason it makes people laugh. Everyone calls his name real slow and drawn out like they are half retarded :banghead: but he loves them anyway.

A buddy of mine had a dog named Askum.

Any time somebody asked him his dogs name, he would reply "Askum", and sure enough, they would ask the dog his name.
