I expected a little more adventurous styling. Very evolutionary of the old design, so it should make the enthusiasts happy. I am glad to see the Viper return.

True. Didn't think of it that way... but it is far from being in Porsche territory.

More like an alternative to a Vette... mustache required!

That's what I thought too. Too much going on inside a compact area. Overall though - I like it a lot. The Viper was such a distinctive design in the first place, it would be a shame to redesign with a completely clean sheet.

In fact, we have introduced a new Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that will require that an ESC system be installed on most vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 4536 kg or less and manufactured on or after September 1, 2011. This will reduce the number of collisions where the driver loses control of the vehicle.

I'm glad this has finally been released. I'm sick of these shitty renderings that look like Arash painted while on LSD.

As for the traction control, I think that it is a feature that will be used by every new owner of this vehicle. I know that every prior Viper owner has had their own "close-call".

this was the report I was reading about it. maybe the fucked up but it clearly states it's mid engine. Also in the pictures they show off the big engine air intake looking vents where there could be two small back windows..

Mid engine just means the engine is between the front and rear axles, not necessarily behind the passenger compartment.

Ah, yeah gotcha.. a simple google search for 2013 viper engine and click images and blamo..

http://stblogs.automotive.com/files/2012/03/2013-SRT-Viper-top-doors-and-engine-open-1024x640.jpg

All good.. I was really confused as to why they would put it behind the passenger compartment too with such a large hood.. But normally when you read Mid engine.. it's in the back.

The mid-engine now gives it a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Can't wait for some action videos.

Glad that you can turn it full off, I would expect nothing less of Mr. Gilles.

And the layout of the car is technically FMR which lets them say it's "mid engined"

hmmm.. not sure about this one. looks good from some angles. not an improvement over the previous gen ones though. the Vipers they made in the last couple years before they stopped production were basically perfect, I thought. The coupe version especially was insanely gorgeous.

edit: from the rear 3/4 view it is incredible. same with any view with the camera elevated looking down at the car. most cars look better from low angles imo but this one looks incredible from a high angle

Looked.

Confirmed.

Ugly.

To each their own, I don't find many convertibles nice though....Vette with a roof looks pretty decent but GM always tries too hard and comes up short. And it always shows.

The Viper still looks WAY better I think.

Yeah, I don't know what it is but GM/Chev always comes across as that guy we all know who wasn't very popular as a kid and now he tries too hard to fit in with the cool guys but just ends up coming across as kind of an idiot. Well intentioned but poorly executed.

Exactly. You kind of admire them for trying so hard and and putting on a show, but at the end of the day it just doesn't seem to work out. I keep hoping that perhaps one day that they will come out with a car that proves me wrong, but that's likely wishful thinking.

Haha ironic they put a map of Laguna seca. Cause the zr-1 spanked it around there. And motor trend didn't seem to like the interior all that much. Or atleast the fact that your feet are 30 degrees warmer than your body. Lol.
Corvette was the fastest production car motor trend ever lapped around that track. (Yes faster than the infamous ACR model) and its 15k cheaper than the new viper too

Darell_n
12-20-2012, 06:58 PM
:drama: Motor Trend is all about sales.

"Jalopnik reported say that SRT CEO Ralph Gilles called out the test driver at Motor Trend for being scared of the 2013 SRT Viper during a recent comparison test of the 2013 SRT Viper and the ZR1 Corvette. Ralph Gilles wrote that fear of the Viper was a factor in the test results, after three-time SCCA World Challenge champion Randy Probst piloted the Corvette around the course slightly more quickly than the Viper. Gilles tweeted, “…There is a lot more left in the car, Randy has always struggled with the Viper.” While Jalopnik defended Probst’s skills, they also had some support for Gilles’ criticism, noting that the magazine called the Viper scary to drive and that the “hard to handle” nature of the Viper is a draw for its buyers. Jalopnik also pointed out that Motor Trend‘s competition and handling of the comparison is “… exactly why they do it. It’s thoughtless trolling and they do it all the time because it works every time. Have no fear Ralph, a Viper, perhaps an ACR or something, will be pitted against a Corvette again. Trust us. … it might happen next month. This is also what they do. It’s called “building a narrative” and this is only the latest chapter. Useful reportage? Maybe not, but it is good theatre and Gilles is playing along nicely.”

Those Corvette headlights are a straight up rip off from Ferrari among many other styling traits on that model.

I am a GM fan boy to a certain extent , but I've never cared for the C6 styling. I think the Corvette's styling peaked around here, although I do like the C5 Z06

But still, for me anyways it's Viper over Corvette any day of the week. What's not to love about all that glorious naturally-aspirated torque?? :D
