Just checking interest for Track Day 3 on Oct 14 (Thanksgiving Monday). The price is $200 and will be 9am till 5pm. It may include in class instruction. Post your interest on this thread. Optimally I would like to collect a $100 deposit by this weekend. If the weather is not good (snowing or raining) we will get 100%of our money back. Thanks

If we can't get 20 guys by next week, the event will probably not happen. It would be too much to go and find guys to go at short notice (I have nuch less time now so I will detrmine interest by sign up and how many people viewed the thread), also because we lose about 3-4 guys on the day of the event. Don't worry though, I will be back at it next year first thaw!

Dude, track events are awesome, but how many more car shows are there going to be before snow falls. I guess the same falls for this track day, but come on man, we've talked about this earlier. :)

Cheers! :D

Either that or if I have my new car I'll be there.

As hard as it is... I will most likely sit this one out. If a spot needs to be filled at the last day then I might hop in for some fun but for now I'll be out until next year.

I'm in the same situation. I'm about out of tires and money, but if there's just shy of enough people I might come out.

Fuji

It is a 2 mile road course which you do laps on. there is passing only on the straights. There are instructors to help you be a better friver as well.

i would just go to rip around the track.

BTW
I have done the track days at Calgary and is alot of fun. You find out just how fast your car really is/isn't. You also have way too much time. One hour at racing speeds puts alot of strain on you and your car. You can play with lots of setups etc.

Could also get a few more guys for this if you like.

i would be interested, i rather race on a track then 1/4, thats kinda what i'm building my car for. i went to race city this friday, got uhhh 17.8, 3 times in a row, lol.

does everyone race alone, like for time, or everyone at once?

i'm guessing alone? so we dont crash into one another?

also, post a diagram of the road course, its not on their site. or draw it, lol.

So track day is still going on. I have collaborated with another group seeing we don't have enough people.

For those who wanted to go, the track day will be similar in format, but there will be no limit to the number of cars on the track. The cost will be around $150-160 because of the increased numbers and decreased number of instructors

PM me whoever is still interested

What's the experience level of the other drivers? How many people will be out there? Reason I ask is because my wife is a rookie and would like some track time, but if everyone's experienced, it'll be tough for others when she's on the track. Might be a bit dangerous...

The SLK 230 has been sold, so my dad won't be attending.

I'm still contemplating if I should take the 944 out there. I was pulling some pretty decent laptimes in the car with no suspension and low boost. This time out I would like some clear traffic, which won't happen if there's too many people. The new suspension pieces will be installed so I can actually turn half decent, and I'll probably be cranking up the boost on race gas... Maybe I'll just run it near the end of the day when everyone's gone home.

Any more info would be appreciated Fuji!

Fuji

Well the drivers are all very experienced. They are all around the skill level of Albert(the one with the MINE's Impreza) Most of these guys have taken a full on driving course and run on the track on their own days 2x's as much as we do. Some other cars out there will be there are the jdm Type R, M3's, porsches, etc. i don't think there will be a beginner class. It will be pretty much, get on the track when you feel like it, no groups or anything. This is not 100% yet as I have not heard back from the other group or my instructor. So I will let you know whe it is 100%

The 320 is plenty powerful! I have a less powerful car than you do. There will be plenty of 4bangers (unturbo'd)on the track.

Alright.... So the track day is on Fo Shor... basically it is whoever wants to come... COME. There is no max limit and we expect about 30 guys. The price will be $150ish for the day. If you are interested PM me so I can add you to my list just to see what the numbers are like.

If anyone wants to split with me let me know. I may only go half day.

I have no idea about deposits as of yet. I will keep you posted.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be no beginner sessions, so you will have to get comfortable driving with a mix of drivers.

K, I'll be coming down with Jinn, but I was wondering what exactly is the format? I attended the BMW Advanced Driving School once with Ian but I'll probably be bringing somebody along and am going to let her drive my car as well. So, is it such that there are still instructors? Whether or not there are isn't a huge deal as I can help her out.

How many people do you have so far?

Fuji
10-02-2002, 08:41 PM
Ok... First thing. I guess the price will be dependant on the number of people. Sorry my mistake, but it will not for sure go over $200. So the price will be somewhere inthe range of 160-200.

I was told to get deposits by this Friday, as Vince will be doing this deal up. The story on this is that if we can't get deposit for greater than 30 people then we will have to cap the event at 24 people. The price then will be dependant on how many instructors we get. Anyone sharing can hook up and pay half deposit.

If there is any money left over from the track day I am told the people who have paid deposit by this Friday will get some cash back (not sure how much). That will have to be figured out on the day of the event. I will be at the UofC all day thursday and Friday, so you can PM me to hook up for deposit if you are near by otherwise I will have to meet you after 4pm at acentral location to get the rest of the dough. Thanks!

As for number we can really tell. we are at about 17 for sure.. I have not collected deposit on my side yet. We will have instructors. format is dependant on number of people. if it is capped at 24 there will be 2 groups 12 cars per group. running in 20 minute intervals. if it is 35 people it will be free for all but regualted by the instructors discretion.

There will be passing on both straights, but not in any of the corners.

Sifu
10-03-2002, 08:29 AM
If there are only 24 people does that mean the instructor will be riding in the car with you while lapping or ffa laps?

How's the weather in Calgary? Apparently there was snow in Edmonton this morning and I'm just wondering how this is going to affect the track day on the 14th.

It should be fine... IF it happens to snow your deposit will be refunded. IF it is wet out but still driveable, then the event will most likely go on. You may wish to check the weather before you come down. Usually the forecast for the next day is quite accurate. Maybe I will post up that morning before I leave, so you guys know whats going down.

Fantastic!!! I have to see the 'beast' perform it's magic. Maybe it will encourage my NA to do better. ;)

Hey Rage2, what did you do with the old suspension bits out of the beast? Any that are still good for a transplant into an NA?

Possibly, but the shocks are stock from 1987, so I don't know how well they will work, they do feel a bit soft, especially on hard acceleration and braking runs. The torsion bars and springs are stiffer than NA, so they will work well.

Just out of curiosity, how is lunch taken care of? Just wondering if I should find a cooler and bring some food along so I don't have to leave the track during the day.

Any ideas on what the final format is going to be like?

Fuji
10-07-2002, 01:03 PM
Usually we take a half hour break and hit mcdicks for lunch or something. The break is just so we get a break and guys can go get gas. Bringing a cooler is a good idea though. Tools are helpful as well cuz you never know what can happen.

As for numbers I won't know until Friday, with the current numbers we will probably only go for 24. If i get confirmation for 3-4 more then it will go to unlimited.

As for break down I think it may be 2 groups or else free for all, not sure until numbers are finalized. It will be fun either way.

Cool, no doubt about that, I was just curious about instructors and the like. And if it is going to be similar to the BMW School format. Sorry for all the questions. My first beyond.ca track day.

Fuji
10-10-2002, 12:10 AM
Well the story is that is WAS supposed to be around 150-170 dollars, but we have 3 instructors there so it will cost about 170-190ish. The instructors are really expensive and they are there to help on a first come first serve basis. USE THEM!!!! They have tons of good info. They will go out and sit with you while you drive the track and tell you what you are doing wrong, how to drive the apex and where to pick up speed etc. They will definitely make you go faster if you are willing to learn. There is no real format in the instructing... it's a laaping day where there are instructors to help you with what you want... just ask and they will be willing to tell you how to do it and help you with it. Trailbraking, left foot breaking and stuff like that will not be taught unless you are really good. If the instructors are busy you can always ask the guys who have a lot of experience and they will gladly sit with you show you the course etc. ON your first few laps if you have never driven with us or on this course you will have to get someone to go out with you just to show you what to look out for.. this person would preferrably be an instructor. :burnout:

Sifu
10-10-2002, 12:43 AM

So everybody is on the honor system for whether or not they've been on the track before? Also, how many cars on the track at a time?

Fuji
10-10-2002, 12:48 AM
Cars on track a t a time will be min of 12 to max of 20 I think... not sure yet, that depends on numebr as well.

I know who has been on the track and who hasn't yet. You can tell right away because Vince or I know everyone's experience for the most part.

Cool, I thought there'd be more instructors, so hopefully they don't get hogged the whole day.

Count me in as an instructor for the morning. Rage asked me to show up so I'll be there in the morning to help. Should be fun :)

Fuji, are there noise restrictions in place? Because due to emergency work on the wastegate, there's no muffler when the wastegate opens, and it's umm... quite loud :D.

How loud is that? I'm quieter than some of those muscle cars at Secret Street... not by much I don't think.

I haven't really heard it from the outside just yet though.
